Somalia is rising , and Ethiopia is changing the old guard

The power of the horn is slowly shifting to the Somalis and to Mogadishu. The resignation of the prime minister of Ethiopia and the vacuum it create d is  unprecedented in that old empire. He did not wait nor arranged for his replacement , but he quit abruptly. The decline of the minority Tigre in Ethiopia was under way since 2015, when the Oromo and Amhara protested against the Tigray dictatorship. for those years, the Tigray army has killed hundreds of Oromo protesters with live bullets. Finally, the Oromo and others have lost the fear of being arrested or killed . They organized massive protests that crippled the country. The Tigray leadership and their puppet prime minister arrested prominent Oromo Leaders and called for emergency rule. That too did not work anymore.

In order to divert the attention and create ethnic civil war, the Tigray intelligence in coordination with leader of the Somali Zione Cabdi Illey had created a killing squad that raided villagers in the middle of the night. The killing of Oromo civilians by the Liyu police continued since 2015 when these communities rose against the Tigrat dictatorship. Oromo civilians were raided and killed in day light by federal army and Liyu police , and in turn a masacker style retaliation by Oromo has taken the lives many Somalis. Somalis who were supposed to be in save heavens controlled by the federal army were suddenly allowed to be massacred by the Oromo mob.

Communities that inter married and lived together for hundred of years were been pitted against each other. The Oromo,  who were been shot like dogs by the Tigre Army just a year go by hundreds while protesting peacefuly,   are now depicted in the media as lynching mobs or those who are against peace and coexistence. The Oromo were oppressed for 400 years by Amhara led system, and now a small minority Tigray who are 5% of Ethiopia population have been oppressing and dominating everyone including the Oromo. Today in Ethiopia , 90% of millionaires and Billionaires are from these Tigray Minority. They dominate the army, intelligence and the economy. They have monopoly in all imports whether it is electronics, clothes, cars or house hold items. Imagine having the monopoly to control the markets of 80 million people.THey have billions worth line of credits from the Tigray controlled banks, and their freight are not taxed at all. They transit their goods directly from Djibouti all the way to the market. They  will tax your own clothes in your travel bags in order to keep the monopoly for those who import things. Everyone in Ethiopia is shocked that a small group of highlanders who did not even speak Amharic when they came to Addis in 1991 are dominating every thing.

Now, despite what Somalis think , there will be a change in Ethiopia. A caretaker prime minister without real power behind him will not be unacceptable to the opposition. A peaceful transition might take place , but the real test are yet to come.  According to analysts  a caretaker from EPRDF will not have enough support from the opposition, so the leader is going to be an Oromo prime minister. While the Oromo and Amhara are allies at the moment, it will be difficult to pinpoint who will replace Daselyn. Since the opposition has the upper hand, they might appoint a caretaker who will implement their reforms. One thing is clear, the Tigray will be losers in this game.

Before this month, the strategy of the opposition was to protest and block streets, towns and highways, now they have mastered the art of strike which cripples huge towns and regions. The Last strike shut down Dire Dawa, Nazret, Addis , Addana and between. A friend who has family in Dire Dawa told me that there is no movements between cities and towns ,because everyone including Somalis had  joined the strike. The Tigray population is out of the power zone. If Makale shuts down , no one will notice, but the Oromo region is the heart of Ethiopian political and economic heartland.

The best thing for the Tigray is to transfer power peacefully and keep the order until real elections take place. If they tried to hold on power and rule by emergency, they will be forced to  leave behind Addis and evacuate to Makale very quickly. After they go back to their home province of Tigray, Afwork of Eritrea is waiting for them and will even punish  them more. As many people suggested, Ethiopia might not totally collapse , but the power center that revolved around the colonial powers like Amhara and Tigray will not be the same. THe Tigray do not mind to elevate their cousins the Amhara, and buy time for a while in order to avoid the Oromo power. Folks, the Tigray have no say at the moment about the next leader.

Here top opposition activist Jawar Mohamed:

xtraordinary times call for extraordinary approach.
-The country needs a unifying transitional leader. Since we know you will not dare look outside the party, there only person who has such political capital in EPRDF today; its Lemma Megersa. If you worry about rules make him acting prime minister. Remember no matter who takes PM position its temporary and the rule will be managing crisis and transition. Only a person with significant political capital can do that.
- If you go any other route you are going down in flames come Friday morning.
- May the Almighty be with our people

Now, how about the Somalis and those created by the Tigray system since 1991.

People like Muuse Biixi , Illey and others are already mourning. A lot of somalis who were protected under the wings of Ethiopia since 1991 will be exposed . Almost all the of the Somaliland army officers have direct line to the Ethiopian regional command in Harrar. A former Somali colonel told me tonight that Ethiopia spent millions for weapons and training  to strengthen the regional armies including the Somaliland army. He told me that no regional security force  in Somalia can conduct any operations without their consent . In other words , there will not be one single regional entity without them. Those who try to escape the domnation and and try to seek understanding with federal government are punished politically and security wise. That is why Muuse Biixi on behalf of Ethiopia is willing to attack Tukaraq and willing to go all the way to Garoowe to punish Cabdi Weli Gaas.

Both Tigray , Illey and Somalilnand have spent their energy to deny the Oromo any weapons that might threaten the Tigre regime. Now, the new Oromo prime minister might not be interested in keeping despots like Illey to oppress people. The Awdal army might get an opportunity to come and go to their communities on both sides of the border. The Jeegaan army will probably vacate Sool and Sanaag and come to Wajaale and Hargeisa to protect their business investment while abandoning the east. We the  Awdalites who want to have their own free state which is the dream of every Awdalite can challenge the separatists since Illey would not be able to block us from intermingling with our border community. The Oromo leadership might not work against the Somali state and disband all these puppet governments created by the Tigray criminals. An Oromo leadership has no interest to disintegrate Somali republic. Worst of all, Somaliland got a warlord as a leader who is already the target of everyone. If they allowed Cirro they would have survived few more years, but with this guy, they are really toasted.

A lot of Somalis who are in their late twenties , thirties or even late thirties who became adulties in the year after 2000, have been brainwashed or brought up by the idea of big Mama Ethiopia being the indispensable nation. Those same tribal boys who are merely interested about the survival of their clan fiefdomsare keep repeating how Ethiopia should stay the way it is or how Oromo will be a horrible  group that will eat our children. They have been watching all their adult lives about their leaders kissing the ring of the king, and for them it's unthinkable that someone might challenge that power, otr the possibility of Ethiopia disappearing altogether. The Oromo are 40 km meters from the Somali border, whether you like them or not, they  are our neighbors, we share both faith and culture and we intermarry among us. They are called Cali, Omar, and Xaliimo. For the last two years since 2015, these Oromo were shot and killed in the streets like dogs when they were peacefully protesting against the Tigray dictatorship. Now that they united and get their power of change at hand,  the Tigray trolls and their Somali " Dabadhilf" are calling them lynching mobs, savages or somebody who want to eat their children. It was last year that I saw the first campaign to discredit them when a English articles described how an Oromo man expelled his own Somali wife who had three children with, while she told him she loved and begged to stay, with no avail. the article said, " He told her go to the Somalis". How can anyone throw away his wife and mother of his children?. It was all calculated. THank God that issue is no more. Here in SOL there is someone who has a full time job to tell these boys how to hate the Oromo and keep serving their Tigre friend who came for them from three thousand miles. He keeps repeating how Oromo is against peace.

The european colonials used to call independent movements savages , crazy or anarchists. Some are motivated by their enclave others are hell bent to keep their  tribe in power regardless of the consequences.

I was one of those who grew up under the domains of the " Kacaankii Barakeysnaa". Siyaad barre might have been ruthless man when it comes to protecting his power, but there were certain characters that nation had. WE never feared our neighbors, and guys LIke C/qadir Yam Yam told us " Soomaali Baan ahay nina Kabaha Uma sido". Our neighbors  feared us. General Cali Samater said, " when the Kenyans see the Somali soldier, they used to throw their guns and run away". We never have imagined in million years, an Amhara will reach the sacred Indian Ocean of Somalia. We might come from Borama or Boosaaso, yet we could settle in Mogadishu, Baidoa or Hargeisa. These were the Somali cities of our time and we could live whichever one  we wished. Muqdisho ama Garoowe  Anaaga leh ma jirin.

How times are changed. Since that lion Siyaad barre died all these boys are trying to do since 1991 is to be the best " Dabadhilif". Some cannot fathom the freedom seeking Oromo or their daring protest to face the bullet. Folks that was what we were in 1956-1960. Everyone othese boys is rooting for the survival of the  Tigray despot who came from  three thousand miles away in order to save his tribal enclave. In 1960, when european colonialism left Africa , they left behind some kind of care takeer  guys to keep the system running, but at  this stage, all those who came with Tigray since 1991 and after will  be leaving  with them including Cabdi Illey. Just over a year ago, I was one of those who favoured a strong leader to keep the Somalis in Zone 5 to avoid anarchy.  Yet, after seeing his collusion with the Tigray intelligence to masacre both Somalis and Oromos to saw discord and civil war, I decided that he must go. If you kill your own people in the middle of the night and bury the next day to score points for your masters, then you have blood in your hands, and you must leave. All the Somali communities in Jigjiga and between have agreed that Illey must go away with his masters. Even those  from Somaliland who used to hate him and described him as  the manifestation of yesterday's dictatorship would like him to be tough and protect Somalis from the Oromo who want to eat their children. Whether you like it or nor the Oromo are here and the Tigre guys are heading to their original homes in the highlands. Learn to live with the Oromo.

Folks, I am 100% sure that if the Tigre dictatorship loses power, there will not be Somaliland , Jubba land or others. These regions could very well be organized and run by Somalis in the future, but at the moment all their economic and  legitimate powers comes from the Tigray regime. It is Ethiopia who asks grants and aid for them. All their military hardware comes through Ethiopia, so does their diplomatic moves and security arrangements. These armies are created to kill only Somalis and no one else. Walaalayaal, Caawa Geeri ayaa loo fadhiya meelo badan oo dhulka soomaaliyeed ka mid xaga qaar keen aan ka dalbaadaegyno. Folks, we are coming to get the children that will be orphaned by the Tigre masters. We will not harm them , but will take them to their original home Mama Somalia.

On the other hand, This morning, after I read the thread by Che about the resignation of the Ethiopian prime minister, I did stop to the Tim Hortons and grabbed two dozen donuts that cost me $20 dollars. The company employees asked me .What was the occasion, I did tell them something else, but  quietly I said  "Dhag dheer dhimatoo dhulkii waa nabad."

Folks, Somalia is rising.

Since the time of Romans power usually resided in certain places. As Washington became the seat of power in modern history, Ethiopia became the power center of east Africa since the collapse of the Somali nation. Every political move that was undertaken by Somalis or others were centred in Addis Ababa. From 1994 till today, the major powers of the world led by United States had contracted Ethiopia to manage the affairs of the Somali state. As Ethiopia looks in ward to resolve itès crises, that power center is coming back to Mogadishu. Unlike many like you, I had simple formula for EThiopia and it never changed for the last 17 years. When you have plan , you stick to your plan until you get a better one. I accepted that the Ethiopia of today which is a colonial empire that must have finished long ago,  can not exist as it is. THe status quo is unacceptable. My options were two. One , a multi ethnic, multi religious and plural democratic country based on democracy and elections where people elect their leaders, or two, a Yugoslavia style Ethiopia that must disintegrate on ethnic  lines which is already been set up by the Tigray leaders. Anything else is just buying time before the eventual collapse. Since we grew up in proud Somalia, we always believed that the power of the horn must stay  within the  Somalis who inhabit the largest land mass and the most strategic geography in the horn of Africa.

Folks, as we speak, that power that undermined the Somali national state is collapsing and will never be the same. Somalis from Jijiga to Hargeisa , all the way to Jubba are mourning tonight. When there is impasse between the federal government and the regional governments during elections or constitutional issues, the regional entity would never accept any deal without Ethiopia guaranteeing . In 2018, the Somali state is rising not because we got the best leaders, but we changed our attitude toward the national government and showed some unity among us. Allah never changes the conditions of a people unless they change in their heart. It seems we Somalis have changed what was in our heart and this new leader Farmaajo seems to be a blessed man who is bringing Somalis to their destiny of nationhood.

When Farmaajo visited Puntland and Galmudug, by the grace of Allah, the people  changed their heart and decided to obey and follow the leader since he was doing the right thing . Somalia is rising because we accepted to help ourselves and we allowed those who were elected and given the mandate to fulfill their obligations toward the public, and since then they have taken their commitment seriously. Hundred of Somalis are freed from foreign jails, the wounded and those hurt by the actions of the terrorists were cared for and healed, national army were recruited and assembled, accountable and responsible government is emerging, while brotherhood and unity were called among Somalis around the globe. At the same time , our enemies have began to quarrel among themselves.

I just want to conclude that, Somalis, do not worry about what others do to change their life , but for a moment look back and analyze the damage done to us by Meles, and his cohorts for the last 25 years. Stop worrying how mother Ethiopia will be disaster if the Tigray lose power. Why not you worry about the half million Somalis living misery in Dhadhaab refugee camps?. Do you have any idea about the lives of the millions of Somalis who are denied trade and livelihood within zone five?. You might be sipping coffee in Hargeisa, Mogadishu or London, but the Somali people are suffering today due to the harsh and oppressive treatment of that regime. Every weapon used by Al-shabaab paases through Ethiopia. THey are the reason we can not build our army or integrate our reigns with the federal government. If you want to talk about disaster, go help the Somalis who are starving from Lughaya all the way to Hiiraan.

By the way , the singer, Cabdi Kaamil Cawaale is my uncle from Dilla, Awdal. Allah ha u Naxariisto.

Galbeedi, don’t put all your hopes in the rise of an Oromo power. The Oromo do not possess the lasting conviction nor wherewithal to see through what they’ve begun,—and, in any case this whole affair might be brought under control by the Tigre led military, just like Sisi did with the so called Arab spring.

Tilamook,

The Oromo might not take the whole power at the moment, but certainly things will not be the same.

I think Ethiopia is different than Egypt. In Egypt the army is it's own institutions like in Pakistan, they control most of the economy and the country for 4 years. In Ethiopia, while the officers are Tigray, most of the soldiers are from Amhara and Oromo. Also, as of 2017, these ethnic zones fully control their regions.

The 40 million Oromo could shut down the whole country and no one can force them to work. The TPLF can not operate with impunity this time. They might not lose the whole power immediately but things will never be the same.

Folks, we should not fear for change. I always believed that these Somali regions, especially Somaliland was the continuation of the colonial projects to subdue Somalis. Have you the British guy run to Hargeisa the moment Biixi got broke and provide 25 million dollars. Why not offer these relieve when there was real drought.

A Wayaane troll came here for the first time and told us Oromo is eating your children and Tigray love Somalis. He was trying to impress his Somali zones inside the repulic.

Any way, let us get the pope corn and watch while some Somalis worry about the loss of the Tigray.

galbeedi,

I am saddened to see that you are capable of promoting and pushing this low level hate propaganda.

But to Jawar and Yourself since you seem to be an enthusiastic supporter, here is what I say:

This is the cheapest, dirtiest and most crude propaganda ever used. But I understand is most dangerous. If you think this shortcut will get you somewhere, it will be cut short and you will live with the consequences of it rather than your target.

You do not have conscience for using any tool in your quest to dominate others.

And now you want to involve Somalia, because you run out of steam even using most crude politics.

It is not a laughing matter, but the crude and inhumaine methods exposed you to what you are. No low point below which you would not fall. There is no bottom red line you would not cross in any manner. There is no religion you respect its tenets. You are prepared to say anything do anything without rules of human beings.

I am not complaining, you choose your methods,  just telling you what you are. Unlike you the people you are targeting have moral principles and red lines they would not cross. They choose tools they use.

Galbeedi is correct Somalia is much better off now under Farmaajo/Khayre and we hope for more progress. Leaving aside the romanticized past of the "Kacaanka barakaysan", where will Somalia be today if the civilian democratic rule continued uninterrupted. The tragedy is that Somalia has lost a golden opportunity by allowing incompetent general to lead the country to civil war. What is the cost of opportunity lost?

I also differ with Galbeedi that our problems are due mainly to Ethiopia or outside forces. We Somalis destroyed our country and it is up to the Somalis to understand that violence is not a solution, that compromise is not a humiliation that  unity is better than disunity and that being patient is a virtue that will bear fruit for future generations.

So the above above mentioned report is true and Galbeedi has something to do with the anti-Jigjiga conspiracy?

Why lie and deny the facts Mr galbeedi?

There is nothing wrong with Awdal seeking their own federal state  within Somalia although the federal state rule states 2 or more regions.  Awdal can be a special administrative region a bit similar to Benadir.

Saalax, eventually the federal project will reach every region, but Awdal will not be under three or four governments. The so called two or more is the temporary constitution. Everyone knows that we in Awdal will none region under the federal government.

We have different history and culture than our neighbors, and that is the main reason we should be our own region. They are our Somali brothers but we have different aspirations.

Galbeedi, I only wished that Soomaaliya was more stronger and in more solid position of power when the Xabashi/Tigrey fragmentation happened in order to take advantage and make the likes of Ileey an exemplar of biggest stooge that he is. Regardless, I welcome their disintegration, though.

What's next, restoring the old abyssinia?

I assume you support or believe  reconstituting the former British Somali Protectorate has better chance?

You sounds like certain someone's new persona. I guess the old man finally figured there's less insane way to try to get your argument across.without caps, bold letters, italicization, insults and over explanation.

I agree it is inevitable.  I have visited Borama in 2016 twice, it is a very peaceful city.  The people in Awdal seem

level headed and very different than those in Hargeisa who believe in ictiraaf delusions for example.
