Minneapolis City Council Member Abdi Warsame’s home was broken into this week while he and his family were out of town. Nothing of value was taken from the home, according to a police report, but Warsame said his mail had been rifled through. The burglary happened between Monday morning and Thursday evening, when Warsame and his wife returned from a short trip and discovered that someone had broken in through the back door of his home in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood. “It’s been traumatic for my family,” he said in a statement. “I plan to work with our police department to get to the bottom of what occurred and to determine if this was a burglary or if there were any other motivations involved.” Warsame won re-election in the Sixth Ward on Election Day, defeating his opponent, Mohamud Noor, by 239 votes. Noor has asked for a recount, which will take place on Tuesday.

This is a serious crime that needs to be investigated. The man has small kids and this could have been more serious. Hopefully, this incident is not a result of the recent political battles with Noor.
