This picture was taken more than 41 years ago. Taken at magaalo madaxda Mareykanka, Washington. Ergadii madaxda sare Soomaaliya ayee ahaayeen, waxeena la kulmaayeen dowladii Mareykanka xilligaas talada heysay.

Dadka muuqdo waa, ka biloow dhanka midig: Wasiir Axmed Maxamed Maxamuud Siilaanyo, Wasiir Cumar Carte Qaalib, Madaxweyne Max'ed Siyaad Barre, Madaxweyne kuxigeen Ismaaciil Cali Abokor iyo Wasiir Ibraahin Meygaag Samatar

In the era of 4.5, sawirkaan wuxuu ku tusinaayaa sidee Soomaalinimada ugu weyneyd Soomaalidii hore. Qofka shaqsi ahaantiisa iyo kartinimadiisa loo fiirin jiray, not yuu yahay iyo yuu galaa.

This historical sawir also says more about dowladii Kacaanka -- how it tried to eliminate qabyaalad from siyaasadda Soomaaliya. Ayaandarro, Soomaali wey la garan weysay taas. Even to this day.

Rose tinted glasses. The rampant clanism, corruption and pitting Somali against Somali to stay in power of the kacaanka laid the foundation for the chaos and collapse that followed. Mohamed Siyaad sowed division and hatred and reaped the 'rewards' in his lifetime.

^You keep dodging reality. Or perhaps you refuse to wake up from your daydream.

As to the picture - what it shows is a dictator and his lackeys. Their facade appears solid and united but the whole foundation was rotten to the core soon to crumble into history.

well said.

MMA unlike many Somalis who suffered immensely (poisoning water walls, bombing our cities, torture, killing and jailing our best) under the dictator's rule, he seems to belong the few who benefited the dictator's rule hence his tinted history .

MMA, when it comes to somali psyche, you are asking the impossible, really, namely to see things or describe them objectively.

We all know nothing is perfect, far from it, but the reality is, early days of the 'dawladii kacaanku' was what one could describe as the 'best' in the recent somali history in progressiveness and effort to unite Somalis on the basis of their ability rather than which tribe they belong to. Things have definitely taken a turn for the worse in later years.

Allow sahal amuur.

It's like saying Mussolini was good at the beginning - he made the trains run on time. All fine and good. But what happened afterwards supersedes and negates all that. The same with the Kacaanka. Somalia's current state is the direct offspring of Jalle Siyaad.

But what can you do with Somalis? In the face of facts - they retreat to meaningless tut-tutting.

The early Kacaan was very progressive and outward looking. They were also proud Somalis.

ElPUNTO, dictatorship in the seventies was the norm in that part of the world. It wasn't something unique in Somalia alone. People every where adopted and managed with the system they ended up with. Only A Somali would leave the benevolent dictatorship of Siyaad Baree and join with the bloodiest dictator in Africa's history Mengistu Haile Mariam.

He assassinated two presidents, one of them with his own hands, killed 60 generals in one night and massacred all members of the Ethiopian Monarchy. He was in league with Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot and others. Yet Somalis were his favored guests.

On this picture , I would say that the Northerners were on the drivers seat in terms power and leadership. It shows their influence and power. Once again it disproves the lie that the Kacaan was against the north.
