'We are so blessed as women to live in the United States. The best place to be a woman in the world is in the U.S. The best place to be black in the world is in the U.S.,' she told The Daily Beast.'Is it perfect? No. Are we confronted with threats? Yes. But it's the perfect place to fight [them] off.'Ali said that the law in the U.S. and the fact that the majority of the population are accepting of differences make it easier for all types of minority groups including woman, black people, gays and Jews.'I cannot imagine what it is like to be a black man living in Saudi Arabia, in Iran - even where the majority of people are black, like Africa,' she said.'I cannot imagine a better place to be gay than in the U.S. I know that all European countries have accepted gay marriage and here in the U.S. we're still struggling to accept that.'On the other hand, when the jihadists in Europe attack gays in the streets, the governments don't protect them.'The best place to be Jewish in the world, besides the state of Israel, is in the U.S. The best place to be Christian is in the U.S.'Hirsi Ali was raised in a strict Muslim family, but after surviving a civil war, genital mutilation, beatings and an arranged marriage, she renounced the faith in her 30s.

This includes control of their own bodies, access to an education and the ability to work outside the home and control their own income, the website says.Hirsi Ali told The Daily Beast that in comparison to the rest of the world woman in the West have little to complain about. 'Listen, if you're not allowed into a golf club, that doesn't sit well with me, but if I were to prioritize, I would say: This girl, she's just been denied her right to school, she's just been forced into marriage, she's just been genitally mutilated. That's the sort of thing that we need to be, as women, signing up against.'Hirsi Ali releases her new book, Heretic: Why Islam Needs A Reformation Now, later this month. The book includes her thoughts on the January shootings in Paris at the offices of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. Her previous books include the best-selling memoir Infidel. She has written and spoken extensively of her experience as a Muslim girl in East Africa. She moved to the Netherlands as a young woman, and she was later elected to the Dutch Parliament. She wrote the screenplay for Submission, a 2004 film critical of the treatment of Muslim women.Shortly after its release, the director, Theo van Gogh, was murdered on an Amsterdam street by a radical Islamist, who also pinned to the victim's body a threat to kill Hirsi Ali.She is married to British historian and public commentator Niall Ferguson, who left his wife of sixteen year for the Somali intellectual. They married in September 2011 and Hirsi Ali gave birth to their son three months later.  Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk

I don't agree with her American exceptionalism nonsense and I am sure many Africans would be offended by her misguided statement about USA being the best place to be black.

Ask yourself, would most blacks want to live in Africa or stay here in the US? I don't believe many would choose to leave en masse to go back to the Motherland.

That was what she was getting at.

Nin-Yaaban. Most black people (I am assuming you are talking about African Americans) wouldn't go to Africa simply their home is these United States, not Africa.

Ayan is reaping the benefits of African American struggle. She didn't go through slavery, Jim Crow, civil rights, war on drugs, etc. In fact, if she was here 50 years ago, she wouldn't have been served at a restaurant or get room at hotel.

We are here because African Americans made price for freedoms minorities enjoy. African Americans were not given anything, they TOOK IT!

BTW, the idea that African Americans will not go back to Africa was a way to justify slavery. In fact, whites of the past and some in the present argue blacks should be grateful that were brought here in chains.

P.s. Africa was a great place to before colonial powers started enslaving its people and stealing its people.

Che no one is arguing that America doesn't have its problems with race and other issues, but it's still way better than most other countries when it comes to how it treats it's minorities and women.

It's not just her or us Somalis who are reaping the benefits of what African Americans had to go through, but every other race.

If it wasn't for African Americans paving the way (sometimes with their own lifes), most of us wouldn't be here.

Well said, Che. And her comments are even more insidious because they aren't simple statements of comparison, they are used to silence all criticism/critique of the US.

Apparently Ayaan is not following the mass murder of black men and boys with impunity by racist white cops.

What mass murder? If the US was truly a racist country, we wouldn't have heard about this to begin with. The fact that it's the leading story in all the major news outlets should tell you otherwise.

African Americans kill each other far more than whites kill blacks. Infact, there is a reverse racism where blacks kill more whites than whites kill blacks. Look it up if u don't believe me.

^Whites kill more whites than any other race, what's your point? There is institutional racism deeply ingrained in this country that effects lives of millions daily. And don't even start with the "broken" criminal justice system that disproportionately incarcerates more minorities than whites.

Ayaan became the mouthpiece for the conservative Christian right wings groups and would say things the white men wouldn't say in Public.

Well my point is Mr. Geeljire, if we are going to pick on white officer shooting blacks, how about the thousands of whites who die on the hands of the blacks?

There is enough blame to go around. And as far as institutionalized racism goes, u dont have to look further than Somalia. How are minorities treated there? Isn't that ingrained in our minds to not marry Somali Bantus, Barawanis, Midgaans, and those other undesirables? Its just the way the world is sxb, it sucks, but thats how it works.

Majority always makes the rules (right or wrong) and minorities always get picked on.

No wonder you call yourself "Nin-Yaaban."!! So minorities are abused in other parts of the world should justify the abuses blacks go thru in this country? Well if you wish to be abused by white police officer, so be it bro. Turn the other cheek!

Safferz she is smart in one way. She knows how to milk the system and appeal to people's prejudice.

Nin-Yabaan Where are you getting your numbers, please provide a source?
