Should Somaliland win international recognition Press tv program

It is a beacon of stability in the Horn of Africa, with a constitution, free elections and economic growth.

After a brutal war of secession and the fall of the dictator Siad Barre, when Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991, it hoped to win official international recognition.

While Somalia has been a byword for chaos since 1991, its neighbor Somaliland has become a beacon of stability.

However, despite two decades of stability and self-reliance, Somaliland says its 3.5 million people are still being denied their freedom.

The country’s independence bid has not been recognized by the UN and the international community because the African Union insists on maintaining the borders inherited from the imperial era.

I love how the reporter asked the Abdi samatar about the colonial borders and the AU legal charters , Abdi samatar went on and on about how the Europeans divided the Somali peninsula. But Abdi did not address the issue, Very good debate The southern guy wanted to divide Somaliland along clan lines Professor Abdi set him straight. This just shows the south is just interested in tribal divisions clan federalism 4.5.

Long live Somaliland and its people

Miyir she never said anything new the US is trying to find solutions for Somalia, this has no real ramifications for Somaliland. The visions of the US even if they wanted greater Somalia it can never change the realities on the ground. Look how the lady says its up to you Somalis to divide or to unite and Somalis choose to live side by side 23 years and counting and no one can deny that, and we have the evidence..

Tallaabo

Professor Abdi Samatar was just peddling a pack of lies and got agitated when challenged by the presenter while the southerner with the horrendous moustache could not even speak English.

Hahahah... Gentlemen this stuff and nonsense. We live in the most backward continent on earth and of that we live in the most backward part of it.

Let somaliland first develop itself to being a strong independent nation then the African Union will be forced to accept reality. 23 years ago no one new somaliland today it is on world maps, aljazeera and numerous documentaries. Build it an they will come gentlemen.

You don't need to e debating with these people. Southerners couldn't build a state since siad barre before that they lived in subjegation by Italy and pirates.

Let them dream we all know and they know somaliland is gone for good. The only difference is they lack the integrity to accept reality why do you think after 23 years they still live in choas???
