Somalia Online - The Turkish ambassador to Somalia Mr Kamaludin Kani Torun told the media at a press conference that the Turkish government has spend 35 million dollars renovating the historic Digfeer hospital in Mogadishu.

“We spent 35 million dollars so far and the hospital is now complete as far as construction and equipment are concerned. We are now waiting for Turkish doctors to arrive soon” said the ambassador.

The ambassador indicated that a small fee will be charged to patients admitted to the hospital in order to pay for some of the operating cost. The Turkish government will continue to bankroll the bulk of the cost to keep the hospital running, including the salaries of the Turkish doctors. It is not entirely clear how much the Somali government will contribute.

When you were born in there it was a single building with a tree in the courtyard, please make sure you tell you kids that you were born undera tree and don't entertain the thought of misleading the kids by claiming this otherly world hospital.

Btw, I am very saddened to say that within half a decade this prestige looking hospital will look like a rubbish dumb. We are indeed African "usgag" amasa "fad aro" amasa "wasakh miiran". I'm taking my point of view of how we treat hospitals in these Western countries. I should know because I work with hospitals.

Hospitals are treated the same way patients are treated!....In Somali inhabited lands you have only 4 protocols of treating patients ...

1) ailing patient....give them PAINKILLER (Paracetamol -known as dhakafaar- Aspirin, ibuprofen etc)

2) patients with cardinal signs of infections.....ANTIBIOTIC (empirical blind therapy with outdated antibiotics as cloramphenicol)

3) Abnormal behavior, Hemorrhoids (WEIRD!) , seizures, hallucinations etc...... RUGTA CILAAJKA SHEEKH HEBEL.

4) patients with otherwise unidentified illness....... the ultimate treatment...QOFKAN hala qaado Either ADDIS/NAIROBI/DJIBOUTI kolba tii dhaw.

Hospital hygiene is a tertiary issue where proper qualified staff is absent. .

Really great work by the Turks (they are sending teams etc even in Djibouti); now, the local medical and nursing schools will make sense with those fully staffed hospitals, as the real training start with the clinicals or shadowing doctors.

It is very telling that the Turks are the ones sending what is really needed in Africa, ie surgeons and engineers, rather than the Frenchs and others...

Why is the hospital renamed to a Turk's name.

SubhanaAllah, if you are helping people then there is no need to put your name on any piece of land.

One must be concerned with the lack of patrol of the usage of the written Somali. There is this huge invasion of the Somali language, written or otherwise because it was just recently that the municipal authorities in be nadir introduced street and postal code and in it the idiots wrote CabdiAziiz as AbdiAziz, although they wrote the others in Somali. Actually they substituted H for X, for instance Hodan!
