What books have changed your life?

Recommended Posts

What books have stayed with you and impacted you the most? Saw this question going around Facebook, so I thought it would be interesting to see what books SOLers come up with (I also may or may not be mining for good reads over the winter holidays...). I'll come up with my list in a little bit :)

Khayr

"Stuff white people like" is a good book.

Here is a quote:

"* Having black friends: "...an abundance of black fiends (defined in white culture as two) also enables a white person to be the resident expert on African-American issues when there are no black people around."

Your life is quite "changeable."

The Qur'an, the Book of Genesis and The Book of Daniel.

The Autography of Malcolm X.

The Y.I.B.I.R of Las Burgabo--Mahmood Gaildoon.

The Malcolm X book is incredible. To see what this man used to be and who he became is truly inspiring.

By "changed your life" I meant altered your thinking in some way, affected you deeply, stuck with you, maybe inspired a change, etc. I don't think I've read a single book that hasn't done that to me in some way, that's the mark of a good book :) Malcolm X is another one, but there are other memoirs I'd put ahead of it if I had to expand my list to more than a top 10.

The books which have had the deepest impact on me were

The Quran

The Autobiography of Malcolm X

Animal Farm

1984

Life of Pi

How an Economy Grows and why it doesn't

Self-Reliance (it is actually an essay by Ralph Waldo Emerson)

Media Control (Noam Chomsky)

i'm surprised there isn't any Islamist literature, here.
