Halqabsi Maanseed | Famous Poetry Quotes

Recommended Posts

Haatu

I shall post here some famous poetry quotes and try to make sense of them (some are straightforward though). I will appreciate any input from the nomads, especially those who know what they're talking about.

I'll start with one of Qamaan Bulxan's most well known stanzas (not the most famous though). I read it earlier and to me it seems like a knock-out blow to a qabiil :D

- Waxaan heli waxaan haaban karo, iyo waxaan haysto

- Hiyiguba wuxuu doonayaa, inaan hibeeyaaye

- Iyagaa intay hilib qashaan, heesi dabataale

- Oo ku hilbo qaybsada waxay, hor Alla gaysteene

-
Ma Hartaynu nahay soorta, maad hadal la'aan dhiibtid?
:D

Any ideas on this superb stanza?

Another great one from Qamaan Bulxan. From what I can understand, the poet is advising against haughtiness (him saying if you think you are rich, there's always another man with one more camel than you). The quote ends with an advise saying that the affairs are not only up to you (I think he means Divine decree here). Overall, a very useful halqabsi which is relevant in many situations in life (memorising it and keeping it as ammunition would be useful :D)

- Hadii aad inaad taajir tahay, tuhunto uurkaaga

- Toodowga[1] xoolaha ninbaa, tulud[2] ku sii dheere

- Walee inna raggow talo aduun, taada uun ma aha

[1] Tood - animal unused to being milked

[2] Tulud - a single camel

^^ Waryaa why are you promoting Mr. Bulxan`s stuff only! ma isku qabiil baad tihiin:D

I knew someone would say this :D Truth be told, I was reading those two quotes when the idea for this thread came to me so I started with them. I'll add other later IA.

Xaji Xunjuf, asc.... Maah-Maahda aad soo qortay "Gari laba nin kama wada qosliso" waxaa iska lahaa nin caan ah oo la dhihi jiray Ina Sanweyne... ( Garta ina san weynaa loo geeysan jiray) ninkii heestaas laga sameeyay.

Laba nin baa isku hal (Neef geel ah), labadii nin baa waxay ula tageen Ina Sanweyne oo caan ku ahaa gar-qaadista iyo cadaalada , Ilaahay baa cadaali ahe.

Labada nin mid bay is-xigaan Ina Sanweyne.... waxay sheekadu socotoba, Ina-Sanweyne wuxuu hashii siiyay ninkii kale oo uu yidhi, ninkan baa xaq u leh.

Ninkii ay is-xigeen baa yidhi "ina san-weynow inagaa ilma adeer ahe, maxaad iigu hiilin weyday" Ina San-weynana wuxuu ku jawaabay "Garri laba nin kama wada qosliso"

This very funny verse comes from Maxamed Cumar Dage, I hope someone can shed light on the story behind it.

Raas weyn Ilaahow ka yeel, raacday foolxumo e

One of the Sayids most famous stanzas. He laments at what he perceives as foreigners raising lowly men to high stations.

- Allahayoow Ferenjigii muxuu, na.cas fariideeyey

- Faa'iido laawiyo muxuu nin ragga, feyl ka wada yeedhshay

- Nimaan aabihiis fuuli jirin, faras muxuu saaray

And now for a famous stanza that has unfortunately been credited to the wrong man for over a 100 years. Maxamuud Axmed Cali Bidhiidh the victim of maansabooli of the worst kind. Anyways, here's his famous stanza:

- Haddaan dhimano geeridu kolbay, nolosha dhaantaaye

- Dhaqashiyo marbay kaa yihiin, dharagtu xaaraane

- Rag dharbaaxo quudheed dugsaday, dhaqayadeed maalye

- Dhashaadeey sugtaa xaajadaad, dhawrataa abide
