This is a great day for Xaaji Xunjuf and Malistar2012.

Seriously, how come there is no coverage on this tragedy in Somaliaonline?

Retarded statement. Xiin waad isku xaartay.

Subxanallah!! I didnt realise the death toll was so high! :(

Any news on whether the rains and floods have subsided? The relief efforts will be hampered- but if it has cleared it would be easier to carry out damage assessment and aid those in need.

May Allah aid us all. Despite all the advance warning, our capacity for natural disaster and its impact is so low.

Ilaahaya ha u naxaristo the deceased.

A storm was expected but this is something not seen in the region (at least in recent times).

The lack of coverage was not out of indifference but due to lack of any information from those affected regions. The news is only now beginning to come through. Alle ha gargaaro dadka duufaanka wax ku noqday.

AUN to inti dhimatay.

But this disaster needn't have gone like this. The first warnings of the impending cyclone were given on November 5 - here -http://www.hewsweb.org/briefs/?INFID=216

Publish Date: 05 Nov 2013

Tropical Cyclone Development

Although there is still uncertainty on the timing, intensity and track, most models indicate that it is likely that a tropical cyclone will hit northern and central Somalia on 10 November. Such a system is likely to support widespread flooding, and the situation will continue to be monitored closely.

The first warnings by PL was on November 9th -here - http://www.garoweonline.com/artman2/publish/Somalia_27/Somalia_Puntland_Ministry_of_interior_warns_residents_against_cyclone.shtml and the cyclone struck on the 10th and continued into the 11th. You can't get the word out to rural nomadic and fishing communities in a day. This is negligence, incompetence and a failure of leadership.

while farole was busy with piracy and dealing with opposition party and how to get rid of them, he failed to convey the warning to nomadic people and he neglected

^In fact the hardest hit areas are all interior Nugal Valley. The people who this affected most were the nomadic. Also, there have been warnings sent through local FM Radios and mobile text at least two days before the storm hit the coast. But let's be honest here, even if those rural nomads have been forewarned where would have they gone for shelter. Criticize the government for the aftermath response which they so far aren't doing bad given the resources they have, but late warning or evacuation , common now.

Storms like this don't happen often. Telling a nomad to leave with his camels because a storm with a lot of rain is coming in a very dry region isn't probably going to work.

The only silver lining in this is that the desert will turn green for a while so the surviving animals will have a lot of grazing land = more milk.
