Proud Somalis back than even though that particular war bankrupted the Somali republic the Somali republic should've used other methods taking the Somali galbeed region. 1977 la inooga ma danbeyn. Fast move forward the 21 century Somalis are at the lowest of the food chain today plagued by civil war, divided more than ever camped in refugee camps Foreign fighters jihadi members and Foreign African union troops protecting the Somali goverment including the Ethiopian soldiers.Ethiopian Tanks entered Xamar caday at the height of the civil war. The 1977 war just testifies that Somalis were a power to be reckoned with, if they only made deals amongst themselves, but the zero sum game has victimized the entire Somali peninsula. I was listening to Mr uhuro Kenyatta the other day he was speaking in a very condescending way about the Somali state and its leaders. Can u imagine a few decades ago his father was terrified of the Somalis, laakin Somalidi hore iyo Somalida hada kaaf iyo kala dheeri.

This was a badly devised and poorly executed war. It set Somalia back and broke its young institutions.

I have historically significant notes (dairies) of one of the key people leading the war effort. Time permitting I should publish them some day insha Allah. it shows that Mr.Barre lacked perspective and made poor decisions. But it also shows that he was genuine in his desire to see greater and united Somalia.

The irony is Somalia started the war to to be united, the result was a more divided Somalia. The legacy of that war continues...

@Xiinfanin It would be good if you could release any documents you have here in sol. I for one would like to know the reasons behind this war which single handed destroyed SNA.

..

some analysts believe the opposite, the whole point of the war was to shrink this giant army which put Siyaad Barre such un-ease since this was at the peak era of african coups, but what ever the intentions, this was un necessary and drained the young republic men and resource, we were alone fighting this war except Iraq who stood by us heroically, but the other side had the backing of the two great powers, the Warsaw block, even many arab nations such as Libya, South Yemen, and the PLO backed the Ethios.

The WSLF guerrillas were doing great job by giving the Ethios a bloody nose and Siyad Barre should've continued supporting them until they captured the whole ****** region.

President Maxamad Siyaad wanted to stay in power he saw a chance to stay in power and to preoccupy Somalis with the greater Somali goal, but i dont believe he wanted deliberately destroy the Somali army. These are just mere conspiracy theories. He wanted to remain in power and this played a role when he declared an all out war against Ethiopia.

I would also love to see those notes, xiinfaniin. Can you share them with us?

WSLF was genuinely shocked they said when they saw Somali tanks rolling into the region because they were well on their way to rid Ethiopia out of the country, they had captured swathes of territory but Siyad Barre moved into to strike the final blow and claim glory, it backfired.

The Somalis in Somali galbeed their struggle of decolonization from Ethiopia had been indirectly under mined by the Somali state. This is true but Somalis in the Somali republic needed to re develop their Somali nationalism. So the leaders at that time focused on Somali galbeed, so they used their own very national interests and projected it on the Somalis in Somali galbeed. Although the war was genuine on the side of the Somalis as a whole the strategy was flawed., the Somali state was trespassing another sovereign nation in the eyes of international law. But if the Somali leaders let the WSLF fought the war , than it would be viewed as oppressed Ethiopian people fighting for secession similar like what the oromos were doing the Eritreans were doing at that time. When the Somali army defeated the Ethiopian army and Somalis were forced out of the region after nearly a year. Thats when the whole thing back clashed the WSLF broke down along clan lines and the struggle was as good as dead. The problem is the Somalis in Somali galbeed have never viewed themselves as Ethiopians nor did they ever viewed themselves as people who are indigenous to the Somali kilil and are destine to be together, there was never a Somali galbeed nationalism. Till this day ONLF is not certain whether they want to join Somalia in the future have autonomy with in Ethiopia declare an all out right secession from Ethiopia, while most struggles have a cause ,the Eritrean case was independence and to be their own country. The Somali case is similar like the divided oromos, the only difference is the Somalis in Somali galbeed face towards different directions towards Mogadishu kismayo hargeisa burco galkacyo Borama Djibouti others face towards Addis ababa.

Cadnaan1; Proof please mise meesha waxaad la timid sheekooyinkii fadhi ku dirirka, here is the oldman's version of what happened and how he delayed the Inqilaab, He (A.Lahi yusuf) managed his task as the commander of the southern divisions brilliantly and took over all the territories he was assigned to, but the northern armies of Harar and Diri dawa area could not pass the Cuban air bombardments and heavy artillery shells from the Russians, so get your facts right before you slander people.
