Nonsense even if they had 25% they would be a real army. Tanks. anti-Aircraft vehicles/missiles. The real thing. Not trucks with 6 Faraxs sitting on it.

Garoodi Because the Tigrayan peoples liberation front and the Eritrean peoples liberation front had a plan the Somali rebel movements had no clear plan, thats why Ethiopia is standing today and Somalia is under the mercy of African union troops and religious zealots and pirates. Neighboring countries had their interests in the Somali republic but only Somalis can be blamed for their own shortcomings and their bad policies and their zerosum clanish politics.

Somalis are emotionally driven and cannot build anything only know how to destroy.

Landers always say this to justify themselves to split away. That's why deep down they don't want to see progress in Somalia. the only card they have is "we have peace -- They don't".

A lot of countries went through destruction, civil war, etc. From the poorest of poor to the richest of the rich.

Trucks with 6 farahs could never control from Djibouti to the Somalia border without foreign forces.

Not really a strong Somalia is in the interests of Somaliland 2 strongly nations the independence of Somaliland is just the people of SL god given right, its not driven by Somalia's turmoil ,the problem is Somaia's civil war seems to be not ending there is no real reconciliation we dont even know if the civil war ended or not. No one trust each other even if there is peace in Somalia it will be fragile. because people never reconciled. Warlords reconciled in foreign countries but never real national reconciliation dialogue. Thats why other countries like Rwanda Uganda Ethiopia South Africa got out of their civil war and moved on. The reason is Somalis are not honest with each other ,they hide their problems they blame it on others , they act as if everything is oke, and when the troubles arise again they just blame it on what ever entity they disagree with or better the neighboring countries. Somalis never take responsibilities for what they have done wrong. Other nations and counties do, it gives the people the right and the space to move forward.

A strong Somalia is the interests of Somaliland AFTER their independence. How do you think Somaliland would be if Somalia was like Russia/China -- heck, or even like Kenya/Uganda.

The chest pounding in this thread is unwarranted. The collapse, or at the very least a significant downsizing, of Somalia's military was inevitable. Consider the terrible conditions the naval ships of the time were left in shortly after the Soviets were no longer offering their services in maintenance and repair. How can you reminisce about a military that was never under complete Somali control?

From what I read the Somalian and Ethiopian governments equally supported the same amount of rebel movement give or take a few. The ssdf was the first and it was the biggest flop in the history of rebelian they ended up surrendering even though they had new weaponry from Ethiopia and this is the time Abdullahi Yusuf stuck a xabashi flag on somali soil. The somali government supported the og people in Ethiopia. After the failure of ssdf. SNM movement based in Ethiopia at the time asked for arms. They only received light arms an petrol. Once the SNM had taken control of what was then the north. State collapse allowed southern rebels to pick up arms government arms not ethiopian because by then Ethiopia ad Somalia had a treaty not to support rebel forces in Ethier country

When Siyaad Barre made an alliance with the Soviet Union he had no idea what he was signing up for. His desire for a military and financial support from the communists blinded him to the fact that had a war broken out between the two power blocks, Berbera, Mogadishu, and the other important towns and cities of the former republic would be obliterated under mushroom clouds. A wise politician would never have taken sides but would have joined the non alliance movement of the time.

^^^ in terms of strategy siad barre had no idea what he was doing. He aligned with the Soviet Union then the U.S.A. Then lost both to Ethiopia. He had no actual sincere communist beliefs he just wanted to see how much he could get. Ethiopia had a strategy the only reason why the Somali Republic lost to Ethiopia is because of the mistakes made in aligning wither powers and poor international relations with other countries particularly the soviet communist block. It was so bad yemen supported Ethiopia in that war.

It was fortunate Siyad Barre lost the war to ethiopia.Imagine had he won, become the biggest sucker on earth and obliterate certain regions with the help of libyan and Iraqi gas that was on the pipe.He had no principle, neither communist nor somali.Only agenda in arming himself to the teeth was to destroy the north first, then Mogadishu & take ova the fertile Jubas.

The Cgdheer would've prevented any refugees fleeing to Ethiopia. SAD FACT:eek:
