SECURITY COUNCIL: Press Statement on Somalia

Recommended Posts

Press release

Friday, June 14, 2013

On Thursday 13 June the Security Council received a briefing from Assistant Secretary-General Tayé-Brooke Zerihoun on the situation in the Juba regions of Somalia.

Members of the Security Council expressed their concern at the deterioration in the security situation in the Juba regions, particularly in Kismayo, and at the resulting impact on the civilian population and the humanitarian situation. The Members of the Security Council called on all parties to refrain from any action which may threaten peace and stability in the Juba regions and to engage with the Federal Government of Somalia in a constructive manner to achieve a peaceful resolution to the current crisis and to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation.

The members of the Security Council underlined their support for the development of an effective federal system of government, in line with the Provisional Constitution and in respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia, in order to ensure a constructive and sincere partnership between the Federal Government of Somalia and local and regional administrations. In this context the members of the Security Council look forward to a broad, inclusive, constitutional review process.

The members of the Security Council expressed their support for the IGAD Communiqué of 24 May and invited IGAD and neighbouring countries to play a strong and positive role in helping to decrease the tension and identify a way forward. The members of the Security Council welcomed the commitment of the Federal Government of Somalia to lead reconciliation efforts in the Juba regions with the support of UNSOM, IGAD and other appropriate actors. The members of the Council urged that this be taken forward expeditiously. The members of the Security Council underlined the availability of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to assist the Government of Somalia in peacefully resolving the situation.

The members of the Security Council underlined the importance of the issues in the Juba regions not distracting from the urgent need to end the threat posed by Al-Shabaab and bring, security and prosperity to the Somali people, the overwhelming majority of whom are committed to peace through dialogue. In that context, the members of the Council underscored their support for AMISOM and reiterated their willingness to take action against those who undermine the peace and reconciliation process in Somalia.

The Security Council will keep the situation under review.

^^ How does Siilaanyo undermine peace bal waxa la isugu sheekenayo eeg, Somaliland is a strategic ally of the international community in the war against terrorism and piracy. Somaliland also support Somalia coming together in peace and stability, it repeated that several times.

Do not mislead the readership. The above statement is not included in the Security Council Press Statement on

Somalia. Some people may not have time to read the whole article. The abused phrase "Somali Land" (ka fogee

erayga xaaraanta ah ee Land erayga muqadaska ah ee Somali" is not even mentioned.

On the other hand, if Siilaanyo & the gang do not stop playing with fire and if they keep not cooperating with

the Special Representative of the Secretary-General who they yesterday dishonoured his prestige as A REPRE-

SENTATIVE OF WORLD AUTHORITY and if they keep threatening to shoot down UN aide flights, I am sure they

will get burned soon.

My support of my assertion that Siilaanyo & gang will get arrested on international warrant issued by the Security

Council, is found in the second paragraph of their Press Statement on Somalia which says

The members

of the Security Council underlined their support for the development of an effective federal system of government,

in line with the Provisional Constitution and in respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia, in

order to ensure a constructive and sincere partnership between the Federal Government of Somalia and local

and regional administrations. In this context the members of the Security Council look forward to a broad,

inclusive, constitutional review process

Threatening to shoot down UN aide fights is paramount to terrorist act,,,,,,,,

Defeated lot, the UN will not do your bidding for you. Don't embarrass yourselves.

So you and the SNM gang defeated us, killed thousands of Somali nationals in Awdal and SSC regions, usurped our

lands, shamelessly lying to the Triangle people that your tribal enclave has the power to shoot down UN aide flighters.

Yes, we need help from the world to put you in cages,,,,,,

Buy darker opaque eye patches. No, we are talking about the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia. Reread

the second line in the second paragraph of the Press Statement,,,,,,,

The Name Somaliland does not exist in the International world ................ Somaliland will only get Independence through referendum after they recognize FG as legitimate authority if not The International Community and FG will Force Sillanyo administration Exile watch ..........

Dabrow

Good devolopment. It seems like security council's support the recommendation of naming a inter-rim admin by FG and the holding of a new reconciliation meeting with all stakeholders as outlined in the IGAD report. This is the way forward.

^^Aaheey

Your comprehension is failing you, Dabrow. SC clearly endorsed the provincial constitution as it is. This interim nonsense will only derail Somali government, the sooner they realize this Kismayo thing is hard to reverse and move on, the better their chances in governing the country will be. But again some folks have never had an interest in governance ...
