Deputy President William Ruto said the instability in Somalia is piling pressure on Kenya’s security situation.

According to Kenya’s Standard newspaper, he spoke when he met Congo Brazzaville President Denis Sassou Nguesso and his Gabon counterpart Ali Bongo separately in their respective countries.

The leaders talked about the need to expand the African Union forces in Mogadishu to ensure the Horn of Africa country was stable.

“We need to stabilize Somalia fully because the continued absence of a stable government is piling a lot pressure on Kenya,” Mr Ruto said.

Kenya, he added, was facing challenges in respect to hosting a big number of refugees and terrorist attacks from the Al Shabaab.

Presidents Nguesso and Bongo respectively congratulated the Jubilee Government for winning the elections saying their governments will collaborate with Kenya on the issue of supporting the Africa Union (AU).

They supported a proposal that AU should give enough resources and personnel to stabilise Somalia so that refugees can relocate back to their country for Kenya to mange its security issues without external pressure.

The Deputy President while briefing the two leaders on Kenya’s role in ensuring peace in the region observed.

“The Somalia problem has compounded insecurity in Kenya with frequent attacks by the Al Shaabab and proliferation of small arms.”

The three countries also agreed to set up a climate change secretariat considering Congo and Gabon lie on the Congo Basin where there is the amazon.

The President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, has requested Nigeria’s help in finding an African solution to the Somali crisis, which he said, had spilled into Kenya.

William Ruto, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kenya and Special Envoy of Mr. Kenyatta to Mr. Jonathan, delivered the message at the State House, Abuja on Friday. He said, “Nigeria plays a leadership role in Africa and Kenya needs you to join other leaders for a framework to help resolve the Somali problem.’’

Mr. Kenyatta said that Mr. Jonathan’s personal intervention in the Somali problem would help greatly. He also spoke on improving relations through extending Kenya Airways flight to Abuja as well as Kenya’s commitment to enhancing intra-African trade. Responding, Mr. Jonathan said that Africa needed to find a collective solution to the problem in Somalia, suggesting a meeting of leaders on the sidelines of the AU 50th Anniversary Summit, scheduled for next week.

He said that Nigeria was concerned about the activities of terrorists in Somalia and other places in Africa and the attendant negative effects on peace and development on the continent.“I have just declared a state of emergency in three states in our country to check the havoc of terrorists. So, I can appreciate the issues confronting Somalia and Kenya.’’

On the bilateral level, Jonathan said that Nigeria and Kenya had a lot to gain from stronger mutual relations. He assured the envoy of necessary cooperation in that regard.

God bless Kenya. Selflessly hosted Somali refugees, allowed them to create livelihoods in it's country and hosted numerous peace conference for Somalia and is currently stabilizing the Jubbas. Marka ka daa afkaaga huurada leh dalka jaarkeena.

The stability and governance in Somalia is restoring. the UN offices are relocating from Nairobi to Mogadishu. These Kenyans are trying to get leverage in Somalia. They are gathering support from other African countries ahead of the Atican Union Summit for their vision of how Somalia should look like. Dont be deceived by Kenya and its "good will" in Somalia, they are only serving their own interest.

Uhurro kenyatta is stepping up the game as long as Madoobe and co are in Kismayo and the Kenyans are protecting him Kenya will have a leverage on Somalia. And Somalis are divided the only way Hassan to get rid of the Kenyans is if he makes sure the western powers support his stance on Somalia. But Kenya seems to be more important for the western powers. There is another alternative if the 2 admins in Kismayo clash and Kenya picks sides. That will be also a plus of the SFG to complain about the Kenyans and their involvement inside Somalia.

That's the beauty of clan politics for you and all Somalis are guilty of it. I remember a certain lot hiding behind the British fighting against a man opposing colonialists ;)

As long one believes IGAD will save them from his own. Things are due to fail.

World is not a play ground and nothing happens from kindness nowadays. IGAD is after the country of somalia

The land the people and the sea.

You might think Uganda is there to protect Mogadishu and Kenya is there in Kismayo to protect It's borders.

Soon or later, they wll explore the ocean and give 1 cent from each hundred dollars to the people in control

Uganda and rest of the peace keepers are there for the money. they don't have love for somalis nor do they care.

Somalia is going down for many years to come. Best thing for this goverment to do is train it's security forces

and slowly regain stregth
