Serbia, Kosovo Reach Deal Ahead of EU Meeting

BRUSSELS—Leaders of Serbia and Kosovo reached a preliminary accord aimed at transforming relations between the estranged Balkan neighbors—a potentially major step toward healing ethnic animosities and boosting economic growth in one of Europe's least-developed regions.

 

After months of talks brokered by the European Union, Serbia tentatively agreed Friday not to obstruct Kosovo's efforts to integrate more closely with the rest of Europe, in exchange for pledges of significant autonomy for Serb communities in Kosovo, where the majority of citizens are Muslim ethnic Albanians.

If Serbs can come to terms with plight of northern Kosovo, I think the Somalia-Somaliland issue is a cake walk.

Oodweyne very true indeed. There are multiple advantages to having Somaliland remain soveriegn for the Somali people in the horn.

 

As to whether Somalis in Somalia will finally see the light? Only time will tell, but even the border issue has been addressed in this Kosovo/Serbia agreement.

If africa was europe they could work together cooperate on the many issues both have to deal with.

 

I believe somalia and somaliland are in the same group as the rest of africans

^^ Somaliland-Somalia issue is different to those of Sudan-South Sudan and Ethiopia-Eriteria on the following points:

1. Somaliland and Somalia have defined borders inherited from the colonial powers unlike the other two regions.

2. Somaliland is willing to be friends with and work closely with Somalia for our mutual benefit.

3. Unlike Ethiopia and Sudan losing ports and oil, Somalia will not lose any apparent economic advantages if Somaliland's sovereignty is recognised by the international community.

^^ Fair point still , but Somaliland and Somalia have still not agreed of what their future relations will be so it will be very hard.

Eritrea has colonial boundaries to although it has been violated by Ethiopia .

 

South sudan is a whole new creation but still its still in conflict , in Africa things will always be different than Europe. The Europeans are advanced and they are people who look things from another perspective and mutual interests Africans are not like that.

 

I doubt Somalia and Somaliland maybe they can agree for a few years to live side by side. but it relations can turn sour after a while.
