^^ You used to be pro Sheikh Sharif but opposed him by the end of his presidancy. Are people not allowed to change their minds in accordance with changing circumstances? Isn't that what happened to Somaliland in 1991?

All eyes on kismanyu, I never knew this place was that important to the world especially a city that accommodates three different presidents.

I see its coconuts and pears now :D

Sheikh Sharif's term was for how long? 4 Years? Are you comparing less than 1 year to 4 years? Naga daa dee. All I'm saying is that those who oppose Hassan today are being unreasonable. I may see it as reasonable after 4 years if he fails. At the moment, its still early days. He hasn't failed. Early days require patience and listening (a broken country needs to be rebuilt). If the 'nationalists' don't want to be patient or don't want to listen to the government, they're being unreasonable.

There you go bringing Somaliland into it again :D

^^ I am bringing SL into it to show you how blind you're being, saaxib. The opposition to Hassan Sheikh is not about how he's spending his budget or what minister he's chosen. It is a dispute about a fundamental part of the roadmap; federalism.

Now you have to bear in mind that I am neither in support or opposition here, I am simply showing you the lay of the land and the basis upon which you need to conduct your argument.

The Imam & Co did sign on the dotted line and have agreed with the roadmap. In fact, the Imam believes himself to be the architect and main driver of this roadmap. However, now that Hassan is president, the Imam (and many of those that signed up for the roadmap) are claiming that this new president is not following what was agreed upon in Garowe 1 & 2. This, they hint, is a deal breaker and are going ahead with their own plans safe in the knowledge that if the International Community picks them up on it, they can always go back to the federal argument and their perception of what the deal entailed. Hassan himself is not sitting back and taking all the flack, he too is playing the same game and hoping that his position and contacts give him the upper hand here. It's a stalemate.

Wax cusub maad ii sheegin saxib. I'm still wondering how all this compares with Somaliland wanting to breakaway. One position was taken in the aftermath of a civil war (and hasn't changed) and the other is one of party (clan) politics (which has changed). That the government has done this or not done that isn't entirely clear. Until it is made absolutely clear, they really don't have much to shout home about. Hanging your hat on something that isn't entire clear only shows clan is number one and not country.

As for Somaliland, it's position is based on what happened in a war and not on finger pointing and clan politics. One can't compare the two positions.

^^ Somaliland's war finished in 1991. Somalia's war is still ongoing. The disputes are the same, the explanations are the same, the mistrust the same. Don't you ever get waylaid by the (necessary) "nation building" guff that we tell each other in Somaliland. At the bottom of it all, the idea is the same. We broke away because we believe it not to be in our interest to be part of Somalia.

Those opposing Hassan Sheikh believe it not to be in their interest to support his government today.

A very powerful line indeed, this is what is happening, and is taking place, but Norf is saying those groups must support Hassan, this is where you two differ, I am with Ngonge on this, everyone has an interest(the imam etc) and the sooner they think their interest is being attacked, then there is a zero room for supporting anything(government etc)!

^Saxib, I'm saying they need to be patient and stop this whole seyf la bood iyo hadaany nahay hebel hebel based on information that no one can actually prove/disprove. Its a position of Somalia aniga weeye iyo anigaa Somalia ah. How will the country move forward with all thise nonsense every year?

Norf, this is a melting point, and stage like that, wax patient la yiraahdo ma jiro, Somaliland refused to participate the recent London Conference becaue it was not in their interest to take part, interest comes before anything, patient wax la yiraahdo ma jiro at this time qof kasta iyo cid kasta interestygooda ayey raadinayaan iney helaan dowladuna support-gareyso based on the road map constitution(fedaralism).

Dowladnimo wexe ku timaada dulqaad iyo samir. If every clan opposes the goverment solely because their 'little' clan agenda isn't been served, then we will remain in this vicious circle. Hassan Sheick has been in power less then a year, he has done nothing wrong to justify the cruel remarks posted here.

P.S. The only way the President can appease in this case, is by appointing a Prime-Minister from Puntland, which is not going to offer a sustainable solution for Somalias problems.

NGONGE got it right. The conflict revolves around the federal arrangement . Hassan picked a fight he could hardly win or prevail . The locals are united by and large, and the process has been more than credible by Somali standards. The notion that all the efforts that produced the Jubbaland Federal State should be committed to the flames simply because the leadership in Mogadishu is unhappy or suspicious about foreign & clannish hands in it is absurd .

by the way, today's update from Kismayo is great :D
