So finally the reer Gedo issue has been resolved and put to rest. All groups are now in accord with their delegates and MPs allocation. IGAD observers have arrived and the election commission is in motion. Let the presidential election begin.

This deserves its own thread.

Illyria,

One of the annoying things about many Somali portals is their need to embelish the facts. ...........In support of their wishes of 'how the situation should be', rather than reporting on 'how the situation, actually, is'.

Kenyatta's speech, in its entirety, does not mention the Jubba situation. The closest he comes to broaching the subject is when he stated:

"The Summit agreed on specific principles on which all processes, including the ongoing efforts to set up regional administrations and stabilization efforts, will be anchored. In this regard, I call on the international community to support the efforts being undertaken by IGAD."

As a matter of fact, he skirted far away from the issue in his whole speech and concentrated primarily on Kenyan's concerns of security and refugee repatriation. I suspect (like I've mentioned in other threads) this might be due to Western donor pressure on Kenya to respect the sovereignty of the Somali gov't over its territory.

You can read the transcript of his speech for yourself at the Standard Media web portal below:

On another note, what happened to our dear, old Xiin. It seems this Kismayo situation has a regular tendency to bring unsteady behavior......

Dee xoolihii oo dhan ayuu galiyay 'Jubbaland' as an investment to win the city from the other local clans to Kismayo, the Camel lovers and the Sheick folks. They have been competing for the city each forming allies with broader clan umbrrellas, Xiins folks with the defeated lot and the others with HAG. Hence why Xiin so eagerly wants the big tent in the city and wants Culusoow out of this process, fearing HAG's involvement will give the much bigger Camel lovers and Sheick folks a bigger position then his smaller branch.

Clan is everything, like Ngonge said. But Xiin is being greedy here with 'everything for my clan'. This form of clan politics is not a very uncommen tendency in the agro-pastoral communities. :D

Some numbers and facts on the demographics of Jubbaland. Something Xiin doest want people to see.
:D

That's some random comment guesstimating the inhabitants of some regions, I really thought that you had something concrete. Counting people in time of war must have been a very easy job down there.

Mintid,

I would agree there is much to admire about the Somali news portals and how they spin stories to fit in a certain narrative and advance their rhetoric, but in this case, I quoted their reporting 'cos it coincided with other tid bits and bulletins emanating from the corridors of the post-conference discussions. Surely you were not expecting the gentleman in question to have raised that touchy issue at the conference, were you?

Actually, I pointed out 4 days before the Conference that the Kismayo issue would be avoided like the plague. The British had given out 'demarches' to all attending parties that contentious, internal Somali issues were to be specifically avoided.

The sole purpose of the Conference was to streamline the various international initiatives for the sake of avoiding

1) duplication of efforts

2) external agendas at cross-purposes.

^^NORF,

Revenue is not an issue. Jubbaland recognizes federal government as a legitimate national government. As soon the parliament puts in place revenue sharing clauses (remember this was postponed during the run up to the Hassan's election), it shouldn't be an issue.

Kenya is not an issue here. Why would Kenya be accused for securing the city from Alshabaab? Uganda did the same for Mogadishu, did it not? Other than fadhi ku dirir talk, Somali government is not (and will not be) making such a claim awoowe.

and my name is Yaya Toure :D

Regardless of what they did or whether or not the government publically claim Kenya's involvement, the boys from Nairobi have been a scheming.

^^The idea is distant shouts of disapproval is a least concern for those who have spent countless efforts to contribute to the stability of the most important area in the South through reconciliation, compromise, and bottom up approach to federal state formation.

And that is what you see in Kismayo ...instead of congratulating to the trans-formative leadership at play in the region, you join the hecklers and the reactionaries in the caliber of Odey Xaad and Ahmed Diiriye :D

But it is your choice , not ours. What we are doing is to inform you and the larger gallery about this historic event.

^^:D :D

You see Oodweyne, at the beginning of this Kismayo gathering I have witnessed separatists like you and anarchists in Yalahow variety betting certain Gedo community will disband this thing. And when it become apparent no such thing was about to occur, again separatists like you and anarchists predicted that the PM will nullify the whole gathering. And when that did not happen, and the gathering got stronger and bolder , yo guys began becoming desperate about this thing ,even resorting to a UN security resolutions as a new tool to kill the Jubbaland state. That too was proved to be incorrect, a mere wishful thinking.

Now after all else fail, you invented an epic struggle between international community supporting the government on a one hand, and Kenya and Jubbaland organizers on the hand, facing off . :D. So what does that pattern indicate? It indicates a bunch of hecklers who are clue less as to what they are protesting against...and cannot articulate why things are moving and progressing as they are if indeed this Jubbaland initiative lacks local and international support.

Today is a great day, and tomorrow will be even greater for Somalia. Insha allah. Ask me as to why Hassan Sheekh and this government is so vigorously opposed to the Jubbaland initiative and we shall school you the real politicking (all internal) that are shaping up in Somalia. But please admit your limitation in understanding current retail politics unfolding the country ...lest you embarrass yourself and resort to UN resolutions, London Communique and what have you ...
