Do you guys even realise the word ‘gaal' or ‘gaalo' has a hateful connotation?

Depends on the context surely. For example, if I introduced you to a new SOL member I would say "this is Apophis, waa gaal". It will be simply to inform.

If Che introduced you he'll say "this is Apophis, waa GAAL". It will be to warn.

Wax fahan, gaal yaho xun. :D

^^There is more to it than that. Or else, why would he confuse the issue of colour which any person can see to that of faith. War we have to test him now and get him to recite the full national anthem of Puntland or something. :D

Both words were meant to describe something but are now used pejoratively. That's why the comparison is appropriate.

Not at all. I can't think of any context where the N word could be used in a nice way. The G word is mostly used to describe or refer to someone. It's the one thing the Brits, French and Italians had in common (from a Somali point of view).

^^ To call you a GAAL would have the same meaning as calling you an atheist, Jew or even MUSLIM. It in no way can be compared to calling you the N word. Wax fahan. :D

^You saying it so doesn't make it so. Saaxiib hadaad erayga iska dhex aragtay, dee micnaha is badali maayo adiga daraadaa. Erayga maxaad ula dagashay? Do Somalis address you war waa kii gaalka ahaa ee Ilaahey iskala weynaa? Hadaad tahay qof erayga lagu bully gareeyay, taas waad ka hadli kartaa.

Should non-muslim people, people of other faiths, atheists etc. freely be able to live in a future peaceful and stable Somali Republic? Should people of other faiths be freely able to practice their religion and build places of worship?

Sell that to someone who isn't Somali. The word has no positive or neutral use only divisive hateful use.

There's life in you after all. I'm not going to sugar-cote Gaalnimo for you. It's filthy. You should do something about it.
