Why do we behave so oddly in lifts?

Or anywhere on the Northern line- I think Tott court road has the longest flights of stairs for the Northern line.

^^ Covent Garden is the longest in all of London. I remember once joining the Canons Sports Club in that area and having to take the stairs at the station before my "induction". Once the personal trainer heard about my stair climbing feat, he suggested that we skip the whole thing and try another day (I never went back). :D

Haha, yes. I always laugh when I see clueless tourists who are too impatient to wait for the lift taking the stairs, sometimes with significantly heavy luggage. The fact that they always ask for directions outside the station might have something to do with losing their spatial awareness in the stairs.
