Ethiopian Airlines - Bringing the Dreamliner to Africa

(CNN) -- As the first airline outside Japan to own Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Ethiopian Airlines has an impressive business record despite the global economic crisis. Growing 20 to 30% a year for the past seven years, the airlines' strategic plan is to carry 18 million passengers a year by 2025.

Nice and all, but what does the fact that the fat cats in Addis bought a shiny new toy do for the poor in the dusty corners of the country?

That's a very ignorant and jealous statement to make. Ethiopia had one of the fastest growing economies in Africa the past few years, and that affects everyone. If a big company makes big money, that means big taxes, and a bigger national budget. Ethiopia as a whole is moving forward - what you need to remember is that Ethiopia is not like Kenya, Nigeria, or other African countries where the elite take everything. Ethiopia's top business leaders give back a lot to the country.

Why is this news? It ain't that big, either, judging from the seating allocation in the picture: 3:3:3.

Bring airbus A380, then we will be talking about something.

This airline recently started non-stop from Koronto to Adisababa. Soomaali badan raacoyso because of their cheap prices in promotion. Even if their ticket costed one dollar, I will never use a Xabashi airline. Never.

Same reason the U.S spends billions on space explorations/War when its' citizens are either unemployed or living on poverty.

Just because Ethiopia's economy is statistically growing fast when compared to other already established economies means jack diddly. Their economic output is terribly low and any modest gain nationally appears to be ahead of the curve internationally. Nevertheless, what evidence do you have to back up your claim of the altruistic tendencies of the Ethiopian elite?

I.saaq Airlines has two of those dreamliners on order and D.arod Airways is about to purchase an Airbus A380, while H.awiya Aerospace is competing with the Emirates for the Indian Ocean routes, excellent alternatives to the previous national carrier, one of the heavyweights of Africa, god bless qabiil and all the backwardness that comes with it!
