Hargeisa(Qarannews)- A large group of wounded veterans, widows and orphans of Somaliland Defence Forces held a large demostrations outside the Somaliland presidency in Hargeisa.

The demonstrators composed of wounded veterans of the Somaliland Defence Forces, the widow and orphans of soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, were greeted by a large contingent of police led by the acting commander of the Somaliland police force, Abdiraham Fohle, outside the presidency and the nearby Somaliland chambers of parliament.

According to spokesperson for the demonstrators, the wounded veterans, widows and orphans are demonstrating against the policies of the government of President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud "Siilaanyo", which has failed to provide the necessary support to them, whilst at the some time conducting a campaign to clear street vendors from the cities of Somaliland. The demonstrators point out that most of the vendors are wounded veterans, widows and orphans of the Somalilan Defence Forces who were attempting to earn a meagre income from street trading due to the nonexistent benefits provided by the government.

A similar demonstration took place outside the office of the Togdher governor a few days prior. Togdher which has become a second front for the Somaliland Defence Forces who are protecting the town of Buholde and the border with Ethiopia from militias aligned with Somaliland's opponents has seen several demonstrations by the families of wounded veterans demanding better health care and payment of any benefits.

In a related news, the city of Hargeisa has seen moves by business community and their families affected by the recent deadly campaign to remove street vendors to consider legal procedures in the courts against the municipality and the government of Somaliland. Close to 50,000 workers, from street vendors to brokers, agents and suppliers have seen their livelihood vanish as the result of the Hargeisa municipality and Somaliland's Home Affairs ministry action, which resulted in the destruction of their businesses and the death of a street vendor, allegedly, killed by a protection force accompanying Minister Mohamed Nur Arraleh "Duur".

Our sources confirm that the demonstration by wounded veterans, widows and orphans outside the Presidency and the chambers of the Somaliland parliament is the first of many being organised by those affected in the recent campaign by the municipality and the Somaliland government.
