Taming Somaliland: The Battle Ahead

Recommended Posts

Abtigiis

The political thinking and strategy for secession of the SNM is best illustrated by the positions repeatedly articulated by arguably the most hawkish members of this clan cult, men like Ace of Spadez, Burhaadeer and Suldaanka. First, Awdal, SSC, Salal (who Burhaadeer says are the fraction that doesn’t matter – he said they are about 20% of the population in Somaliland altogether) will be included in the pursuit of recognition, fronting pretenders like Rayaale as the face of an all-inclusive Somaliland. If and when the ‘fractions’ look over the border and declare allegiance to Somalia, then the SNM will implement plan B – which is the original plan of carving out a clan state for a particular clan. The conviction to install an ‘Afro-Hashimite’ State is resolute, almost a canonical duty. This clearly shows that this project is about disregarding the will of other clans in Somaliland. Their will can be accommodated only if it is obedient to the SNM agenda. This is fascism.

The strategy I presented has nothing to do with Siyaad’s methods. It doesn’t involve bombing Hargeisa, pillaging Burco. It is not about arresting SNM elites and supporters, nor about waging war on its territories. As such, it denies the SNM of a vital rallying cause along which it can assemble an alarmed clan. In fact, the strategy will precipitate divisions among the SNM. No sane person expects Colonel Mohamed Kaahin and Muse Biixi, or Darawal or Saleebaan Gaal to embrace the new political dispensation. These are the relics of a frenzied wartime mindset. They will whip up sectarian and clanist vitriol and will try to re-implant bad memories of war and distruction into the minds of the general population. But there will always be progressive thinkers among the recalcitrant clan, who will see the new dawn of mutual cooperation and growth with Somalia. Who will understand a clan can never be a state, particularly when it is not immune to ‘maryo-alool’ type intra-clan feuds. The message of war will fight with the message of peace, and peaceful words will triumph over war drums.

That Suldaanka and Burhaadeer could only talk about the future of Somaliland in the past tense (in the memories of war, destruction, and suspicions about an occupying clan/s) shows that they are detached from the real rapproachments on the ground. People are trading, marrying from each other, and finding that like all wars, the 1980s war has ended. Diaspora SNM’ites who has lived all the last two decades hosting sectarian parties, clan forums, will be deprived of a vital source of livelihood. Suldaanka and Burhadeer should look for new opportunities and source of incomes before it is too late. The proliferation of ‘Jaaliyado of hate’ is the thing of the past. With a resurgent Somalia, proper embassies that espouse national agenda will take the helm.

P.S. Jacaylbaro - when you quote what I write in other threads, please don't take half statements.

Your rhetoric didn't help you & your clan in Ethiopia. All otha somalis in ethiopia didn't come along with your secessionist little clan minded suicidal adventure and you wana try here...you keep losing buddy.First things first..rather focus on your desolate constituency...or the grass is greener on the otha side.?

BTW..I was wrong to say 20%..actually 1%.As some one born & raised in Ethiopia it's anyone's guess what your motive is behind all these threads...to get greater somalia that will take your fight????.We tried to help you once & left a bad taste in our tongue,so keep itching,it ain't coming. And why you wait till somalia gets stronger?Since we are clan state why don't bring your clan?and as much I care less if all otha somalis come to your side cos we defeated your big man Siyad, why you think others in Mogadishu,Baidabo etc will come along with their tormentors ! Yes they don't like SLand go either but they see the devil in the works...you have unattainable dream!! and "proper embassies"hahaa.....keep counting on someone else.Somalia had more than 60 embassies, was part of the UN,OAU,ARAB LEAGUE & getting billions worth of weapons that's still in use by various factions. You can't see thru neither you have vision!

Caabigaaga ha la arko cidlaad ka cartamaysaaye...

A gallant effort A&T. Your proposals have their flaws and the whole thing in premature but at least your mind is in the right place. Somalia will have to extend it's hand to SL when things have settled in the south politically and security wise. We are approaching the 'last chance saloon' with regard to Somalia/SL. It all depends on peace and security prevailing in the south. I might be wrong of course.

We aleady notice the clear schism between the chavunist elements of Somaliland (represented by Burahaadeer, Abokor, Suldaanka etc) and the moderate elements led by Norf and Carafaat. It isn't a coincidence that the moderates are closer to home by geography of where they live than the chauvinists sitting in Oceania and US. The moderates are more connected to the goings at home, as they are nearer to it.

Burahaadeer, this is a tale of two secessions: Somaligalbeed and Somaliland. One secession is for freedom, fighting colonialism, domination, oppression. The other is about hegemony, clan narcissism, and division. The SNM struggled was about freedom and ending oppression in the 1980s. That phase has passed.

Until Mogadishu comes back from this seisure or ceazes to be the seat of Somali government what the intiator of the topic suggests is a daydream. In the absence of proper Somali government maintaining normalcy, keeping law and order and local development are all excellent virtues need be commended for the regional administration such as Somaliland.

SL admin is doing good and should keep up the good work.

Divide saxib divide. New tactic? :D

When all is said and done, a case needs to be put forward/initiated by the unionists. A realistic case that doesn't play on the old adage of 'somalinimo' etc etc.

So what are the advantages of a union A&T? Now, I don't want the somalinimo midnimo nonsense. I'm a man of finance. Show me numbers (economy) and tell me why union as opposed to separation would be better.

when Syaad was in Buurdhoobo one of his drivers asked,"Mr.president you should have built great cities for our clan to run to in times of crisis..see where we are today".

Siyaad responded,"will do that when we recapture Mogadishu..I mean shining cities like N.York." and he added,"tell company X & Y to encircle the city,I'm coming tonite at 8". companies that are now platoons or don't even exist!!
