Be Secessionist or Die Trying!

20 plus years on and still counting since one of the major clans in the north proclaimed secession and independence from the union. Their reasoning being that the north was once British Protectorate, and last military government oppressed them out of proportion. The latter I agree to some extent but there were others in Somalia who had gone through similar measures however, Somali Republic remains to be a single entity in the eyes of the international community as well as in the conventional and covenants of the UN in regards to states. One can not based the right to self-determination on mere emotions. If even some would like to entertain the idea of secession. Two essential ingredients must be satisfied; a viable Somali government in Mogadishu and the consent of all clans in the north - neither of these has this craziness of self-search netted after twenty years of trying by both cohesion and manipulation techniques. In the case of North being British Protectorate at some point history has no problem with that but it fails miserably to justify the legitimacy of secession.

Have your say where will this idea of secession be in 20 years from today? in my view, the idea is in its declining mode and its tank is running out of gas fast because the minds produced by this futile, elusive exercise for the last twenty years are not only threat to the coexistence and cohabitant of all northern communities but rather to themselves.

Asking somalilanders not to be somalilanders is asking them to lose their identity, somaliland quest for statehood is a must baryo maha

Farmaraa

Taleexi, you are absolutely right about this ,but you missed another cheap tactics that the One-Clan-Based Secessionist have used to get international attention and this is their cheap talk "We enjoy peace while other somalis in Somalia do not have a peace" . Is this something that they can get what they called independent state from Somalia ?

Peace all and god bless Somalia no exceptions.

Waryaa Oodweyne: Malaa inaad majaajilayso baad maanta u badheedhay. Dhalanteedka aad ku baadi goobaysaan aqoonsi ku sheega ma mashruuc open-ended ah uun baan ku waydiiyey saaxiib? Inaad gidaaro madaxa la dhacdo kaama filayn. Haddase iyo dan aynu dadkeena kala badbaadsano.

Farmaraa - Good point how does one believe in this 21st century that such cheap rhetoric legitimizes the dismemberment of the motherland? - Anigu intaa waxaan ku celceliyaa saaxiibadeena wareersan inay maruun mashruuca soo afjaraan.

Farmara we enjoy peace why because of our traditional elders (cuqaal talisa boqor caadi leh culimo mizaan leh)Put a lot of efforts in to the peace making of the different communities in the republic of Somaliland and we thank for that for starting from the Grassroots and creating livable society for the people of this country , Peace in Somalia is in the hands of the people of that county there is nothing we can do as former president daahir rayaale kahin said the refugees who flee to our country we receive them but thats the least we can do for the Koonfurians, Because our traditional way of solving our problems can't be enforced into the Mafia culture of the Koonfurians.
