A Paper on Human Rights Violations in Ogaden

Recommended Posts

Hodann

"Man has many laws but most crucial law is the preservation of human rights." The recognition of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of human family. This very recognition is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world. And those laws preserve the inherent dignity of the human person. And thee fore no one shall be subjected to torture, cruel inhuman or degrading treatments or punishment. Sadly the Ethiopian government has violated the protocol in every possible way. They have denied the very thing that humans yearn for. Freedom… The freedom of choice…and the freedom of live in peace and most of all the freedom from oppression.

Human rights in Ogadenia remain hostile. The will of Ogadenia people is to live in peace, dignity, and with hope. Since the beginning of 1990serious human right abuse continued. Many civilian citizens were killed. The key of human rights problem in Ogadenia is the lack of political rights and the absence of central government that protects and preserves the rights of these individual. Since fall of the Somali government, the Ethiopian regime began to brutally attack the native people in Ogadenia. His chaotic actions have terrorized these people for the last ten years the main agenda of his action is power. The power to directly control the oil found in Ogadenia. For the last 200 years Ethiopia is colonizing the Ogadenia. The brutal oppression continued to raid and these people for the last 100 years.

In order to drive these people from their land and homes the Ethiopian regime is attacking the very source they depend to living the environment. The destruction of the environment had produced a terrible famine that caused a massive death of people. When the Ethiopian regime are not killing women and children and burning their homes, he is destroying the environment by clear cutting the vegetation that grows in the region and contaminating the wells, by their poisoning then or blowing up.

The native people that inhabit Ogadenia are nomads. The very existence of these people depends upon the land. The nomads in Ogadenia are simple people with simple ways. Over 200 years they lived in this productive way of life. These people lived in climatically tough are, with extreme heat, droughts and littlie vegetations that depend on the rain. A considerable part of the years the nomads live in portable dwelling, who move from place to place as way of life. The main occupation of life is to raise livestock. Their essential value of life is their livestock for food and clothing status and cultural practices. The most dietary food is milk. Their survival depends upon moving with their livestock wherever they get water.

The rainy season is three month long [April to June]. And the short rain is July to September. To these people water is the very essential of life. More valuable than gold. Wells are ways of storing water during the dry season. They move from one well to another to sustain their livestock. And travel hundreds of miles from their home. Today, the Ethiopian regime is threatening the very source of living WATER. He is poisoning the wells, or blowing it up, a burying it under thousands of bricks. Never to be used again. As a result thousands of animals die each year. These people have nothing to eat because their food resource is being killed and therefore famine spreads through out the land like a wild fire. Killing women and children.

The international community must come to aid for Ogadenia people. To protect then from the regime. These people have nothing to give but to fight for their very lives. Colonization has ended almost 60 years ago, why Ogadenia should be different? The human right of the United States that all men are created equal and it shouldn’t therefore be inferior to another. This estimate must not take lightly; the UN must ant on its words. And preserve the lives of all that cannot defend for them selves. All men had the right for freedom. And to be recognized as human being. The will of these people is to live in peace, dignity and honor on their land. It is essential to rebel against tyranny and oppression in order to preserve and protect the rights of all human Today I ask my brothers and sisters to unite and rebel against our oppressors. Today we ask the international world to give aid and support to free our selves from hands of oppression. To enjoy and taste the fruits of freedom to live and fight for peace.”
