Laakiin Luuq, Dooloow and Baardheere is different, widaayoow. Soomaali isku dhaf ayee u daganayeen, laakiin wixii ka danbeeye 1991 sheekada waa is badashay. I don't call it "occupation" as it is in Shabeelada Hoose, etc, laakiin dadkii dhulkaas daganaan jiray waa laga barakiciye, whether iskood ugu baxeen or not.

This doesn’t translate as "deegaanka" uma dhalan. I believe reading written history is more trusted than an oral one from kinship, which is obviously slanted toward to certain views. This was another reason I am avoiding not to share my personal opinion masquerading as a fact. As for "deegaan" ahaan, shaqsi ahaanteeyda Xudur baan kasoo jeedaa, and I had been to Waajid, Bakool, one of the closest towns to Luuq.

Gasaargude clan suldanate established and expanded their power base, establishing their headquarter in Luuq. They ruled the regions such as Gedo, parts of Bakool and Baay until the Talyaani came. They still share a little power there, Luuq area, albeit diplomatically now since they are unarmed.

 

The Talyaanis immediately recognized and established Alta Jubba, for tactical and strategic reasons that those lands were inter-connected. Alta Jubba consisted these following towns: Baydhabo, Buurhakaba, Baardheere, Saakoow, Jajuuma, Diinsoor, Qansax Dheere, Waajid, Xudur, Tiyeegloow, Ceelwaaq, Dooloow, and Luuq. (Plus smaller villages and towns that were coming out, such towns as Ceelbarde, Yeed, Garbahaareey, Rabdhuure and Buulo Xaawo.) In the official elections between 1960--1969, only Baydhabo, Xudur, Buurhakaba, Luuq, Baardheere and Diinsoor had at least a member of parliament represented in Muqdisho. The MPs who represented Baardheere and Luuq (two seats each) districts both came from one clan, and they weren’t from the clan that claims to own those towns presently.

 

After the Kacaanka, Gedo became its own gobol, with its main capital degmo inaugurated as Garbahaarey. To the surprise of many, unknown tuulo (at that time Garbahaarey) was chosen as a regional capital, sidestepping such heavy known degmooyin of Luuq and Baardheere. Of course since creation of Gedo itself was an unchallenged political move from the highest echelon of ruling regime, no one had voiced their dissatisfaction when Garbahaarey was deliberately chosen as its regional capital. With that choose, Luuq subsequently declined, both its trade with Soomaali Galbeed and NFD getting weakened. Baardheere too would have followed that route had it not being a xirta town.

Ilaa iyo kacaanka saas ayee u daganayeen, and maadaama kacaankii markii danbe arinta soo fara gishtay, naturally, dhul balaarsiga occurred. And after 1991, the whole landscape and demographical had both changed.

 

Now, the town of Luuq, which also had a sizeable Fiqi Muxumed of D.i.r. clan along with the aforementioned Gasaargude clan, changed completely. Same with Bardheere, a town founded in 1761 by a group of awliyo men subsequently became known as Jameecada Baardheere, foremost among them being Sheekh Ibraahin Xasan Yabaroow. It was burned to ground in 1831 by the Geledi Suldanate ruled from Afgooye. Jameecada emphasized strongly in their particular order of sufi brotherhood, Qaadariya, instead of clan. The last known sheekh ruled them was Sheekh Mursal Macalin Caliyoow, murdered in ’92.

I heard the Warday were in Lower and Upper Jubba and the boran were in Gedo and parts of Bakool and NFD. The Mar-ehan and the Awl-yahan expelled the boran while the other Og-aden subclans and Tal-xe expelled the Wardey from Jubboyinka. I also heard that Gaarsuge and Gaboweeyn(somali bantus that live on the river banks) were present in the luuq and bakool area at the time. They were not expelled from the area and were left to their villages.

 

Another thing I wanted to point out was that Baled Xawo did not even exist at the time. Baled Xawo came to existence a long time later when a Ma-rehan who was working for the english as a soldier was based in Mandhera. Because at the time they did not allow Ma-rehans to settle in kenya because of their rebellious nature, his wife, Xawo Aden, built a house on the other side of the border in where Baled Xawo is today. More and more people settled in the area and the town grew bigger over time. Just to show you how new Baled Xawo is, Xaajiyo Xawo Aden, the lady the city was named after, is still alive and resides in Baled Xawo with her son.

Walal no Ma-rehan can get a kenyan citizenship today. When you apply for a citizenship in Kenya they will ask you for your qabil and if you write Ma-rahan you will be denied citizenship immediatly. This all because the Ma-rehan clan refused to sign a "peace-treaty" with the British , for the "peace-treaty" included the Ma-rehan clan giving their territory up and being governed by the British colonialist. Ugaas Doore who was the Ugaas of Gedo at that time refused to sign the treaty, because he said he would never succumb to forign rule and will never give his land freely .

Nomadic activist, the British only signed treaty with certain clans.It signed treaty with all Is.aq and D.i.r clans in 1884 at once. The provisions of such treaties bore the same content except one it signed with Wars.ingali in 1886, which doesn't contain the preample that precedes every treaty which puts the independence

and maintenance of order in the British Government

hands. That means this clan didn't cede their land to the British in the treaty apart from matters relating to commerce and the abolition of slave trade. You can easily locate articles of such treaties online or from the colonial literature of British empire..

 

 

Besides, Somalia's first delegates to London in 1954 accused the British government of its blithe uncertainty about the transfer of Haud and Oga.den region---that the British defaulted on her obligation to protect Somali lands, failing to observe the 1884 and 1886 treaties.

 

 

This was the first time Somalis had taken any political action independently of the Protecting Power. The Somali delegation was received with sympathy in London but failed to persuade the government to postpone the implementation of the agreement, or to find any Court before which they could plead that the 1897 Treaty was null and void because of the Treaties of 1884 and 1886 between the Somali tribes and British government.
