Text of report by Somali pro-Puntland government Puntlandpost website on 25 April

The president of the Puntland administration , Dr. Abdirahman Shaykh Muhammad, today speaking at a mosque in Garoowe said that he attended international conferences in Nairobi, Kenya, in which he was told that part of the officials in his administration have relations with the Somali pirates that abduct ships along the Somali coast and the Gulf of Aden.

" We were told that our administration has ties with Somali pirates. We told them we do not have any relations with the pirates and that we have done our investigation and established that officials of the administration have no relations with them whatsoever. We were then told that the previous administration had ties with the pirates and we said we never heard of it and do not believe the previous administration had any ties with the pirates," said the president of Puntland.

The president upon returning to Puntland yesterday spoke of piracy while still at the airport and said that the whole world links Puntland with piracy. He said it was possible that an international operation will be carried out against the pirates.

It is worth remembering that the president of the Puntland administration a few days ago appealed for 20m US dollars to fight piracy saying that it was unable to do anything about the problem of piracy if it did not get international assistance.

Duke,

What have I been telling you for the last 2 weeks about Faroole's trip to Nairobi? These are your own sources being quoted by the BBC Monitoring Service which is just a translation service.

You are an obstinate student :(

JB,

They're (Xiin, Duke, and Emperor) going to add Puntlandpost to the list of sites we're banned from quoting :D

Mintid you are getting far too desperate adeer, you are learning how to twist and misinterprate news but you are failing with it terribly... Where is the turned down funding by the international community you talk about in this news, do you really think the title of the thread really match up with the content of the news... like I said you are trying to learn how to spin but you need one heck of training...

Markaa adeer will you just for the sake of your health rest this case before you go mental and so you can have peace of mind... Adeer bal yara naso xoogaa, at least for a week or two, Puntland is this or that iyo sidaan baa Meles noo qaabilay ayaad kuwaalatay loool ...

Thankful

The head of the UN has already said it himself, that he believed Puntland gov't officials were link to Piracy. This is nothing new, everyone knows that the UN and other parties believe this. However when the Puntland government asks for evidence or names of individuals involved in Piracy, they are never given anything.

What are you trying to say, if the UN says something then it must be the truth? Well the UN also doesn't recognize the tribal state you hail from Somaliland, but you seem to disagree with them. Puntland which is a state within Somalia attended the meeting with the Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid, it's a matter of protocol to give the Federal gov't the money, who will then spread it throughout the country. President Sharif was promised 250million, a portion of which will go to Puntland insha'Allah other regions like Somaliland. Stop with the nonesense that Puntland was promised no money, the money goes through the Federal government and we all now how much they were promised.

The Puntland government can not allow these allegations from the UN to spread, they need to demand evidence. Names of people and evidence so they can be investigated. They need to push the fact that it is the paying of ransom that fuels the piracy.

Emperor,

Simple logic. If I considered someone as part of and a collaborator of criminals, I wouldn't associate myself with that in anyway.

Mr. Amputee needs to really show that his administration is not a collaborator by:

1. Raiding the Pirates hide outs

2. Distrubting the Pirate organisations (be it Xawala money transfers, transportation, communication, cars etc etc

3. Confescating the known Pirates's properties and richies

4. Bringing to justice the bigwigs and the rank/file pirates including the government ministers and police who collaborate.

All that can send a signal that Puntland authority is not a part of the problem but is actually trying to at least doing something.

But doing nothing and having a record of being in bed with Pirates and still putting up a brave face like that doesn't cut the mustard at all.

^You are not funding anything or any operations, you can't list what needs to be done, or not.... The President of Puntland state of Somalia have had a successful meeting with the international community, the outcome have thus far been according to the plan, the president ticked the right boxed and made the right moves, the international community on the other hand have listened to his input, welcomed to meet him and will hopefully fund the operations to fight piracy by the Puntland. Remember west and the big donors must work with Puntland, and I mean must cooperate and work with Puntland because that's the only way to end and stop piracy, they couldn't do with all the destroyer ships on the sea, it has to be on the group hence fund Puntland to fight them on the group, its simple equation adeer...

There is no pressure on President Faroole adeer, if you think that was the case then you need to re-do your homework... He absolutely made it clear that his government is not capable of controlling a 1500km long coastal line, he's willing to do it should the funding and the logistical means to do so be provided...

All we need from them is to stop paying ransom, arm ships if you must or raid them. Nothing can be done while the pirates make more then the government does, who don't have to worry about running a state. The U.S has a stict policy of not negotiating with kidnappers, other nations must adopt this!!!

I don't understand why this thread was started, you tribal state of somaliland no longer has elections. It claimed to be the only democracy which was thrown out the window. Obviously Riyaale doesn't have what it takes to realize your goal and has done nothing to further the cause. Yet you focus on Puntland? If you put more time and effort into regaining your elections, it might help your cause.

LOOOL @ "You are not funding anything or any operations"

Waar ninyow is daji. I am just pointing simple logic that you seem to miss or turn a blindeye to which is obviously distorting the way you are reasoning here. I never said I was going to fund anything or anyone. I just gave you the example of what a simple logic is.

Btw, I don't think anyone requires Mr. Amputee is able to or not able to control the 1500KM coastline that you said. That is not the point. The point is, is he trying anything? Has he tried to at least distrupt the criminals?

You don't have to control the 1500KM to show that you are able to fight the Pirates in their current known hideouts and distrubt their networks and confescate their properties and bring the big names to justice. That is just rolling the dice and sending a signal to the international community that Puntland is at least trying something.

Suldaanka Awoowe lets not drag this forever, I can say Puntland tried to do something, surely Faroole can say that too to the rest of the world, its not only about trying or saying that you tried and failed, its about doing it, securing the whole of 1500km long coastal line and completely stopping this problem once and for all, otherwise what's the point of trying...

To do all that Puntland has to find the logistic and economical means, the world seems to understand that, the piracy issue is not as simple as trying your best, these guyz are few men here and there, very mobile and spread all over the place from Sanaag coast all the way to Hobyo and as far as Mogadishu to Merca, if you chase them from one side let's say from Bari they move to somwhere else and set up all they want in less than an hour, very effective and mobile groups, the world fully understands this and the only opportunity open to them, in order to stop this, is to fund and engage with the only authority that exists in the vacinities where most of these problems happen, and thats Puntland...

What part of the article didn't you guys understand? Faroole is telling his followers that in his meetings in Nairobi, he was told his gov't is in bed with the pirates. He denied it. Then he was told that the previous administration, Adde Muse's, was also in bed with the pirates. He denied that as well. This is all from Faroole's mouth.

Now the question is who's the international community that's telling him this? Who did Faroole meet with while in Nairobi? Was it the UN? No the UN is an international NGO that does the bidding of its member states.

According to popular Puntland accounts, Faroole met with the American Ambassador in Kenya as well as the EU Resident Rep in Nairobi. He also met with some European diplomats including the Italian & French Embassies.

It was these Westerners with their intelligence sources (two of which might be Duke & Emperor :D ) that made this accusation against Faroole.

Now do you think they're going to give funds to an administration that they (rightfully or wrongfully) see as profiting from the piracy? Connect the dots, gentlemen, you can't possibly be that slow!

How I feel about Puntland is irrelevant to the equation. I've presented my evidence straight from the horse's mouth...

^You are wasting your time trying to link uncompatible dots and making all sorts of nonesensical allegations... contrary to your title, no where in your thread it said funding will not be given to Puntland.

Let's for sake of argument agree with you and say that Puntland is not funded to deal and fight with the piracy, then fine the world must fight them out in the seas... it's simple not a big issue, Puntland have come up with an idea and is willing to stop the problem, fund us and will deal with them or else deal with them and shoot them like the Americans did whenever you find a pirate in the sea...

Markaa adeer madaxa ha iska wareerin, if Puntland is funded to do this job is good, if not there is nothing to worry about not a big deal, all is good... but just one quesiton for you, why are you so intrested in this and all other Puntland related issues...
