Secondly, the Press-Statement from the "State Department", is very exceptionally interesting, particularly, in-terms of it's formulations, and most particularly, in-terms of it's
"Diplomatic Verbiage"
;

The "Diplomatic Verbiage" seems clear-cut and straight-forward:

"The United States welcomes the September 29 parliamentary elections in Somaliland, which represent a step towards democracy in
Somalia
," the statement added.

Do you think that, perhaps, Mr. McCormack actually meant to say "a step towards democracy in Somaliland"? But he's an educated fellow. He said Somalia - because he knows he can find it on a map. Regional elections in Somalia, amplified by local media to look like national elections. Even the Americans seem able to see through the smoke-screen.

Somaliland has managed to avoid much of the anarchy that has dogged Somalia over the past 15 years. However, the territory is embroiled in a border dispute with the northeastern semi-autonomous state of
Puntland
over the regions of Sanaag and Sool.

Puntland - this is a scar on the secessionists' dream. But hey, who am I? I'm just a hater, a nay-sayer, actually. ;) But do you also think Mr. McCormack is a staunch supporter of Soomaaliweyn ideology? Perhaps, he has Puntland citizenship... :D

Whats up with the cherry picking Tolstoy and Suldaanka, You only fooled yourself. I could clearly see the dissappointment in Tolstoy's writing whilst he served his dear region to justify and interpret the word "greater Somalia" as ethnicity meaning the whole Somali race in the Horn of Africa, I can only feel sympathy for you in your plight.

Your arguments don't stand on stable legs walle been has got short legs. What about the people in the NFD, who have held successful elections in their regions not to forget the people of the Somali National Region who elected their representatives to the parliament just a couple of month ago.

Really sad as how low you've sanked. This is your political downfall, please no more essay-writting anymore because your integrity and credibility has been shattered.

How sad, it's really sad.

Interesting analysis there Tolstoy.

No doubts, at all, that this represents a significant development in regards to US policy towards the region in general and to Somaliland/Somalia in particular. The US seems to have finally shown some interest on this issue. Perhaps the State Department sees Somaliland as a perfect fit for its Foreign Policy towards Africa in general and to this region in particular, when it comes to fighting terrorism, democratic practices, humanrights issues and good governance.

Somaliland already enjoyed a friendly hand from the EU and the UN seems to have finally come to its senses (Addressing the "Somaliland issue" is on top of the agenda for the new Kofi Anan representative for Somalia/Somaliland). Also, the African Union seems to have finally takens a more friendlier stance towards us.

I say, the puzzle is finally coming together, finally. :D

The Holy Land, Somaliland, will be independent regardless how others feel about it. Allah's chosen ppl, Somalilanders, are stronger then ever. They've been through a lot, they got the fortitude and firm self-believe along with the confidence to handle any challenges that may lay ahead. Insha'allah, Allah's holy warriors -- S'land's soldiers and security forces -- are on the stand-bye to repulse any foriegn invasion, infilteration and subversion.

The valiant Holy wadaads of S'land (bearded or otherwise) are ready to beat kafirs, infidels and their imitators with truth and verity of Allah and his messenger. Allahu Akbar!

And with latest elections, the Holy ppl have spoken -- for INDEPENDENCE. With Allah's blessings! Maa'shaa allah!

So, all you S'land haters, know who you dealing with -- the Holy land, Holy ppl, Holy warriors, Holy wadaads and Holy inspired elections!!!

I say that is alot of HOLINESS!

Insha'allah, Somaliland will be the realisation of Shangri-La. God speed! Bismillah!

I loof you, too, Abaayo ;)

But, as always, you're chickening out from the truth: FADLAN, explain this part of the U.S. State Dept. statement to me:

"The United States welcomes the September 29 parliamentary elections in Somaliland, which represent a step towards democracy in
Somalia
," the statement added.

It took you 15 years of incompetence (goal-wise) to get the U.S. government's admittance that, indeed, any elections in "Somaliland" are actually regional elections in Somalia. Ain't that a b!tch?

Goonle

Its disgusting to think that hundreds of thousands of people died to allow people of somaliland to freely line up at voting booths, and yet dont even have the decensy to put ballots in the very regions that sacrificed their men. Its gonna take a lot more than just hargeisa berbera and burao to make a country remember that.

Tolstoy, tolstoy, tolstoy! Why don't you just come out and say Wind is getting the better of you? :D Sarcasm aside, his points are quite legitimate and the fact they make a baffonry out of your arguments must be what irks you. :D Every once in a while we need a dose of reality, do we not? :D
