Men Arrested After Wearing Peace T Shirts at Mall

Two men were arrested by Guilderland police after mall security questioned them about wearing peace tee shirts at the Crossgates Mall. The shirts read "Give Peace a Chance" and "No War with Iraq."

An employee of a store at the Albany, NY area mall alerted security to the men. The security officers told the men to remove the shirts. When they refused police came on the scene and arrested them for trespassing.

Police say the fact the men refused to leave constitutes trespassing. The New York Civil Liberties Union is looking into this matter.

Critical Flaw in Internet Infrastructure kept Secret until Patched

A serious flaw was discovered in late December in the key piece of Internet software, Sendmail, which is used to sort and deliver 50-75% of e-mail traffic worldwide. The flaw could have allowed a single e-mail to gain control of an e-mail server.

The end effect of a number of such attacks could have led to a global slow down of net traffic as e-mail was bounced as undeliverable, or even allow for denial of service attacks utilizing the high speed links e-mail servers commonly have.

The initial report of the flaw was kept secret to allow the developers of the different versions of the Sendmail utility to develop patches, the effort largely coordinated by the newly formed Department of Homeland Security.

Maori's Are Upset With Robbie Williams and Mike Tyson

After both Mike Tyson and Robbie Williams got Maori-style design tattoos they started attracting the ire of a group New Zealand who disapprove of the pair using Maori designs in this way.

Academics from Auckland University say they object and are concerned about the way their Ta Moko, tradition Maori art, is being misappropriated. Robbie's tattoo is particularly disturbing since it has Maori characters in it.

Tyson's tattoo is particularly upsetting to one Maori experts due to Tyson's criminal past. This "demonstrates a need for more information in the wider community about Ta Moko, both here and overseas", says an academic who lectures on art history.

US Admits Claim was False

The US military has admitted that claims regarding the capture of 8,000 soldiers were false. The soldiers "captured" by the US military are currently battling against British forces near Basra.

The Pentagon blames Saddam's Fedayeen troops for the confusion. The official statement now is that only a "couple of commanders" have been captured. One of these "commanders" has turned out to be a junior official who lied about his rank.

Saddam was once a "Good American"

Despite being a current member of the so-called "Axis of Evil," there was a time when Saddam Hussein was considered a "Good American." So good, in fact, that in 1980 he was presented with the Key to the City of Detroit.

"Times were different back then. [saddam] was the friend of the United States at the time, a puppet who relied on US backing to counter the threat of Iran" said Yasso, pastor of Detroit's Sacred Heart Parish, who received approx $500,000 from Saddam.

Yasso was also invited by Saddam to visit Iraq. While there, Saddam "was a good American at the time and treated us royally." But Yasso is not surprised that Saddam has become an enemy, saying "He was corrupted by power and money."

Key Rumsfeld Advisor Perle Resigns

Richard Perle has chosen to resign his post as chair of the Defense Policy Board. Perle is a key advisor to US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. Perle said he did not want controversies over him to interfere with the war effort.

Perle was trying to get the government to approve a deal between a bankrupt firm called Global Crossing LTD and two Asian firms. He would have made hundreds of thousands of dollars. The post he had forbids making private gain off the government.

Perle says that this deal had nothing to do with advising on policy matters for the Pentagon and he said he would not collect money from such deals. Under Reagan Perle was known as "the Prince of Darkness" because he opposed arms control agreements.
