Young women whom we have had a Platonic relationship( a relationship deviod of intimacy and physical contact) saw me while practicing my Guiter course, the young women was angry and she stopped talking to me, she thinks playing music is Haram, moreover it is not approperiate behavior for a good Muslim, I told her that the major musical theorists in the medivial ages were Muslims like Al-farabi and Ibn Hazm, moreover, the prophet attended a traditional performance, played by Abyssinians in His Mosque and also in another accosion He( the propher PBOH,) was present when young Arab singer( a women) was signing, however, he left the scene, when the women said the following roughly, ' among us is prophet who knows what is in tommorrow[ that is what will happen tommorrow]" all this never satisfied her,

in your experience honestly answer the following questions

1- do you listen to music

2- do you think music is prohibited in Islam

if so what grounds do you have, support your thesis or understanding.

1. Yes

2. No. Personally, I've read two scholars say the exact opposite thing about the prohibition of music. I think that it is prohobited to a certain extent. Its not about playing the instrument itself but how you use it. To be honest, after I read the two opposing opinions, I didn't look into it much.

I read it a long time ago somewhere which is why I didn't include the name of the scholars (who are not one of the madhabs, if that's what your looking for).

peace and blessing of GOd be upon you guys.

in the name of allah most gracious most mercifull.

walalyaal i think it is good idea not to extend our tongues to saythat is haram or halal.unless of course one have firm daliill or evidence from holy quran or hadith.acualy no one can prohibit some excep GOd.as one of the scholars said there are some controversial issues, and this controversy is as aresult of weak daliil.so every scholar took it his way and according to his/her cultures/enviroment and ijtihaad.

to me musical instrument is a nuetral meaning it is not haram by itself.not only musical instrument but also all the instrumens. like tvs,computers....e.t.c it can be only haram if one use for haram things, for example: if one of us use his/her pc for porns.or his tvs to watch nudes, sexaul films and so on ,then for him to possess this kind of instrumen is haram as long as he uses them for that porpuse.likwise musical instrument if you use then for bad song or excessively then may be considered. as for ssing and songs,i thing same thing applies.song are are like poems they are words.it depent to certain extend for the intention of the singer, and word he is using.if he use bad word or what we call fuxshi in arabic, then fuxshi is haram.many scholars divided songs into two catergories: (1)songs for encouragment, like work songs,or militry song when arms are in fight.or educational poems and songs and so on......

(2) others like sexual songs ..e.t.c

the former catgory is ok.the second is not.

prayer:illahyo xaqa inugu hanuuni.

Nur

I enjoyed playing the Guitar, 4 me music was more important than food, but Allah SWT showed me the evil of music, it was the most difficlult decision after I began observing Islam in full, I simpy could not imagine throwing away my collection, but, after that decision, horizons of knowledge and love of Allah filled my heart, and now I enjoy reading Quraan and making Dhiker a pleasure billion times better and soothing than Satan's tools, I wrote a piece on music ISA, I will repost it for the emotionally challenged on these boards. May Allah guide part time Muslims, amin!
