I have no idea. I´m allergic to all fruit though. Oranges and grape fruit make my lips swell. The rest close up my throat...making it hard to breath. But canned fruit i´m not allergic to..don´t know why.

Xafsa, congrats on the baby girl:)

In regards to your cabbage soup diet, I wouldn't recomment it because, im gonna assume ur breast feeding so therefore ur child needs all the nutrients and this isnt the time to drastically cut ur nutrition. Instead, opt for smart choices such as switching white starchy foods with brown. For example, use brown bread, make sure it says multigrain on it instead of white, brown rice/pasta, instead of white, skim-2% milk instead of soy (doesnt have as much nutrients as ur daughter needs). Fresh veggies, steam it instead of cooking it or drenching it with butter.

In general diets don't work because they force ur body to go into withdrawal, missing all the foods it was used to.

Also eliminating all carbs isnt healthy as well, since we need the fuel for energy to keep us going all day, otherwise we'll feel lethargic. Instead of fad diets that promise fast results but that we can't realistically keep up for the rest of our days, choose instead to eat in moderation all the foods u love and/or substitute it with ones with lower calories so ur body doesn't feel deprived.

Too often, diets dont work b/c ur blood-sugar levels crash and ur hungrier than u were usually, then ppl tend to overeat, which leads to more weight gain. Ironic that its supposed to help u lose it, but u actually gain more. Moderation is the key.

When it comes to excercise, 30-60 min a day of cardio,(walking, running), whatever elevates ur heart, is good for u, not only does it boost ur metabolism for further weight loss, but it also conditions ur heart and lungs. For most ppl, thats not feasible, so do what u can, and for u hafsa, its great that ur walking with ur baby and what u can also do, is maybe run with the stroller in intervals, meaning, walk for 5 min, then jog for a min, repeating it till ur time is up. This forces ur body to use more calories, and hence more weight loss rapidly. As for weights, 3x a week, 20 min is enuff, as that builds ur muscles and helps u burn calories throughout the day versus cardio which is just limited to the time ur working out.Use smaller weights and more rep to create long lean muscle, and heavier weights with less sets for those that want a more buff loof.

I also have low iron/anemia and Doc recommended pills and like bee, im not entirely fond of them and continuously forget to take em. But low iron contributes to feeling tired all the time, headaches sometimes and dizziness for me. Im always saying I will eat more food enriched with it, and I do love spinach, but the realities of living in a somali home throws that plan out the window.

Thats all folks... smile.gif with all that advice, ud think i was a fitness guru...somebody should pay me

I would recommend drink lots of water, make sure you eat breakfast.

Breakfast is a must coz it jump starts your metabolism. Also have a banana or an Apple for breakfast.

Exercising - try the eliptical machine. Works wonders for the hips and tush ;)

Don't eat after 6 or 7 pm and if you eat make sure its fruit or light snack.....Absolutely no bariis, pasta or hilib aari(goat meat).

If you love bread and you just can't leave with out try wheat bread. Instead of Ranch or mayo substitute it for light or something else.

Lots of water, healty food, and exercise is the best. Don't believe in all that hype about those pills very dangerous.

Dark Angel about the loose skin if you exercize meaning exercising with thread mill, eliptical machine, weigh training or light weights you will be fine.

Green tea with ginger and I think Starbucks sells it also called Tazo green tea. It cleanses your immune system. Very refreshing.

Hope that helps.

I think that's one of the biggest myths I have heard. For the last couple of years, I have been working mostly second shift so I don't get to eat until it's late around 9 or 10pm and I have not gained any weight. Actually, I saw a program on ABC News 20/20 uncovering the myths, truth about health and beauty. Here's the link. Eating at Night Myth Disaproved.

^^^^Its not at night its eating right before you go to bed....your body is getting ready to slow down so it won't really di gest all that food.

X-Q: thanks for the advice. I stopped the cabbage soup diet after half a day...I felt so damn dizzy, I had no enerrgy for my daughter...not worth it. Anyways now I just eat my breakfast, a light lunch and dinner all before 7:30pm. I go for a walk everyday with the baby, and now I feel so much better and healthier.

DARK ANGEL: Loose skin can be avoided with excerise, cardio and weight training.

Aside the good diet, exercise is the key to staying fit. I’m not talking about bodybuilders’ exercise mind you but more like Yoga and Pilates (Windsor pilates with resistant bands are good). It’s not for losing weight but working with the shape you have. It won’t bulk you up like a man but will build lean strong muscles. It will be hell at first if you’re not a flexible person but once you get the hang of it, it’s good for the joints, the back and the digestive system. I started this a couple of weeks ago and I feel much better and relaxed. Look wise, I have a hard time gaining muscles so I’m not holding my breath. Hatha Yoga is a good start; it will help you with your posture, your breathing techniques and mainly relax you. Beware It may also make you so relaxed you might fall asleep smile.gif

As for working out... It's best to go to exercise classes, such us Body Bump for whole body workout and Body Balance for body stretch, Yoga and Pilates are just too slow for me.

whatever happened to doing sit-ups til you're blue in the face, push-ups till you feel like your arms have been shot and ripped open, and then going out for run till you no longer feel your legs?? *shakes head* machines dont do ish...basics every now and then work wonders. oh and NO beef EVER! chicken once in a while but fish < a must have every day.

ps. no exercise during summer...two months of total freedom! feels good. ;)

a little fat hurt no one...proud of my extra 10 pounds! and i still got a month to go! :D

in no way am i advising anyone to follow my way of healthy living.

sis pucca

there absolutely nothing wrong with the good old sit up's or push up's. but U have to keep in mind that....To shed the fat quickly, aerobic exercise is essential -- it is not an option U and I or others have to debate about it.....simply Many people will begin to see results just from doing Aerobics alone.

if for the sole reason of being tired of being soft or un-toned is the main reason why U in the first place jumped in the fittness wagon, than my frined there is alot more to being toned with especific desired results. I'm sorry, it's the truth. No amount of crunches, ab gadgets or special hanging abdominal exercises will make your abs magically appear nor will any amout of upper body work outs make U stand out. You cannot spot reduce. In other words, you can't burn abdominal fat simply by doing abdominal exercises nor could U choose to single work on the upper body limbs for a quick fixes.

simply sis ....To accelerate your fat loss and increase your muscle mass, you need to train with weights and alternate your Cardio/ resistance trianing days with intentions to allow your muscles the necessary time to recuperate.

Good exchnage topic so far for the well being of Women...cheers

^^^thanks!!

My post earlier was simply a joke really sis, i do exercise here and there and make use of a gym however i dislike it. weight lifting is a good way to go, but with summer here the thought of sweating in a gym doesn't sit well with me... its hot enough outside! I'm not interested in losing weight so it doesn't really make a difference in appearance if i stop for a month or two. in all honesty though, goin to the gym is no fun if you're doing it alone.

bravo to all those who work out though...its hard stuff! i can't stand anythin more than doing laps and those crunches... weights annoy me! and with me being clumsy...well lets just say i get more bruises than muscles.

ps. the meat and chicken part is true, it's not for health reasons though; i hate beef and often force myself to eat chicken.<odd i know..cant help it though.

fat person exits health room... smile.gif

Milk?
Cawo..LoL. I have tasted soya milk..and erm..can't say it was a good experience. But to be fair, I only tried the powdered kids one (a few of my baby cousins were born with serious food allergies...specifically intolerance to dairy and gluton). So, I'm not sure how different the flavoured liquid is.

Now, what's Almond milk?

^^^ My little cousin has the same allergies, it’s very hard for the poor girl, I couldn’t even take her to McD’s for her birthday…. that was the first time I found about such allergies, good thing is she doesn’t live here...the rest of Europe is better equipped for these things…we had to go to specialist shops, lakiin nowadays I have seen few gluten free food in few of the supermarkets.

You haven’t tried Almond milk? You don’t know what you’re missing dear… it’s the best thing since Caano Geel :D . Seriously though Almond milk is very good for the complexion... you should try it. I normally get mine from Holland and Barrett

Yes, some of the supermarkets have started stocking more lactose/gluton-free products, but it's still not enough and the choice is very limited

My aunt shops in specialist stores too, which also have limited choice and tend to be quite expensive to boot.

The UK is so behind.
