Somalia Campaign (resources for a PR campaign)

Paragon I am part of MPACUK, so don't worry, all the members are already helping out smile.gif

G. Galloway is a bit hard to get hold of, he has his open surgery on thurs I think, so I'll be popping in to see him then.

I worked in Islam Channel last year, so I know the news readers and some of the researches, If you want I can give you the details of M. ALi, (*he is very helpful to brothers, so I’m bit reluctant to approach him) last time he authorized a live donation show for Somalia (when their was the famine)

MCB & MAB I would not bother with, they have lost their touch and their statement of support will not carry any weight or mean anything. But i do know I. Bunglawi and his wife, and they will be more than happy to help out so I will contact them if you want.

DO you know any one from STOP the WAR Co? I lost my contact, so if you don't know anyone I will just approach them? The socialist are good to have on our side.

Does anyone know T. Ramadan, we need him on our campaign, simply because he has a big institution and he does many talks, I met him once at BBc but i don't know if he will remember me, in any case we need to start booking speakers early (at least 1week notice). Al T. Williams might help us (if we stress Black Africans rather than Muslim

Salaam

I have emailed my MP and even considering to send an email to the MEPs. I think it is important that we get heard loud and clear.

Xanthu..Didnt know that you worked for Islam Channel. I may need to ask a favour sometime in the future (nothing strenous) ..that is if you dont return back home.

Xoogsade, brother, Insha-Allah, that is the message we are trying hard to put across. The withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from Mogadishu and Somalia altogether.

Xanthus, as always you are very helpful. Insha-Allaah I am taking all your advice on board and appreciate the pointers you've made. If the brother from Islam Channel is helpful to brothers then let me approach him. I also know a number of brothers working with the channel. Insha-Allah Islam Channel should be helpful.

It is good to know that you are part of MPACUK, should have known before. Anyway, you are now 'our lady in MPACUK' smile.gif .

Dhucdhuc iyo Dheylo, good to hear you've written to your local MP. I think you should write to your MEPs too. Remember it is the EU that supports the TFG. A decision by them would go along way, I tell you. Thanks again, Sis.

This is the reply I got from the BBC.

----

Dear Mr .......

Thank you for your e-mail regarding BBC News.

I understand you are unhappy with the BBC's coverage of the current situation in Somalia. The choice of news stories to report in our programmes is frequently very difficult. Editorial staff always have more news reports than can be fitted into the time available. Their choice has to be selective and no matter how carefully such decisions are made, they are always aware that some people may disagree with them.

The BBC News website is consistently updates with information from around the globe which you may find of interest:

http://news.bbc.co.uk

Nevertheless, please be assured I have registered your comments regarding this issue and have made them available to the BBC News team and the senior BBC management. Feedback of this nature helps us when making decisions about future BBC programmes and your comment will play a part in this process.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us.

Regards

Adam Sims

^^ Yes, Xanthus. Adam Sims sure comes across as a very nice and understanding fellow. His reply very much sounds human and that is an encouraging thing in a big coorperation like the BBC. Unlike that woman who replied to you, who sounded really mechanical in some sense, Adam Sims is indeed a good job.

Anajuwa, as Xanthus suggested, give us a hand would you? smile.gif

It's Labour day tomorrow and I assume that there will be major demonstrations arranged in London. Why not join the demo with with your own banners, hand out flyers with short info and facts about what's going on in Somalia, and also info about your coming demo...

I see you've contacted muslim organisations, why not also include organisations of other faiths. I've had some good experience of a christian organisation called Broderskapsrörelsen...I think they might be an international organisation, so in english they'd be called the Brotherhood movement. Anyway, there must be lots of other christians for peace out there one could contact.

Paragon, Xanthus, peacenow, I'd love to give you guys a hand, but I'm miles away... all can do is say "keep up the good work!"

I think someone already suggested it, but why not move this topic to the General section?

^Elysian, thanks alot. Darn, didn't even remember tomorrow is May Day. I am leaving London for the countryside, Insha-Allah. Any volunteers?

We might try these International organisations to help us along the way. They seem to have the necessary expertise/resources to get messages across effectively. Elysian, there are actually Christian pro-peace orgs in London who would be more than willing to lend a loud voice. Not a bad idea using all pro-peace organisations/institutions and individuals' help.

Hey, 'keep up the good work' helps it for now. Now tell me about Sweden and what you are doing/have done so far in the Somalia Campaign . That is if I am not too inquisitive smile.gif .

PS: MODERATOR CAN YOU PLEASE MOVE THIS TOPIC TO THE GENERAL SECTION.

Paragon, I'm sorry to say it but at the moment not much actually. We, Students against war, did arrange a panel discussion about the US/Ethiopia invasion of Somalia just right after the US bombings. I was surprised to see the number of interested swedish people that did turn up (we had bad luck with a snow storm), and the discussion was really good and constructive.

Remember I had some difficulties convincing a somalian website to put up info about the event, at that time, didn't think anyone could support the invasion... guess I was wrong.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to include anything about Somalia, which I really regret, in the last peace festival we arranged two weeks ago (with the topic "Who's a terrorist"), and to be honest at the moment I'm to exhausted to initiate anything, not a lot of help can be found out here :( but you guys are really encouraging!!

By the way, have a nice trip Paragon!

You know there is always a next time. You might be too exhausted to do anything now but Insha-Allah involvement in leftist politics would reinvegorate you and re-energize you to pick up the banner :D .

PS: Thanks. Will try my best to enjoy it smile.gif .

:D:D That must have been rude awakening for you to find out the sad realities of a country sold by its very own people and then they celeberate its take-over.

Have a safe trip saxib. I can send a letter to the two senators of our state. I can even call their office as I did once before on behalf of a woman who wanted her husband in the US. They were helpful with that. It is important that those of us who can put a good word for our country to do so. Thanks for your efforts again.
