TPLF's "Republic of Greater Tigray"

The Tigray People Liberation Front, TPLF had published their organization's manifesto in February 1976, the booklet was printed in Sudan. The TPLF manifesto, clearly defined who a Tigryan is, the land that the TPLF considers as Tigray, and the final destination of the TPLF. The following comprises some important contents of the manifesto.

a) A Tigryan is defined as anybody that speaks the language of Tigrigna including those who live outside Tigray, the Kunamas, the Sahos, the Afar and the Taltal, the Agew, and the Welkait.

b) The geographic boundaries of Tigray extend to the borders of the Sudan including the lands of Humera and Welkait from the region of Begemidir in Ethiopia, the land defined by Alewuha which extends down to the regions of Wollo and including Alamata, Ashengie, and Kobo, and Eritrean Kunama, the Saho and Afar lands including Assab.

C) The final goal of the TPLF is to secede from Ethiopia as an independent "Republic of Greater Tigray" by liberating the lands and peoples of Tigray.

This being the manifesto of TPLF in 1976,

By Ginbot 7 Research Team

February 20, 2010

Introduction

A few months ago, Ginbot 7’s research team presented an extensive list of the top military commanders of the Woyane regime including their names, their position in the military and their ethnic background. That meticulously researched study showed how the current military of Meles Zenawi’s regime is totally dominated by one ethnic group where by some 95% of the top brass of the military emanate from the Tigrian ethnic group representing about 6% of the population. While this was a shocking revelation to Ethiopians and foreign observers alike, some apologists of the Woyane regime, presented this as a natural development similar to the dominance of the Shewa Amharas during the imperial regime and the broader ethnic Amharas that supposedly dominated the Derg regime. We felt at the time that this argument was problematic for two reasons. First, the nature of ethnic dominance that is observed during the Woyane period seemed to be more purposeful, calculated and certainly more excessive than any of the regimes in the past. Second, even if there was systematic ethnic dominance in the past, it surely does not justify the perpetuation of dominance by a new group, which would only increase ethnic animosity and destabilize the society further.

The 2010 Election and the Formidable Cartel in the Somali Region

By Ali Abdi

March 30, 2010

Editor’s Note: WardheerNews is delighted to post this essay and we do so only after we thoroughly checked the facts through well connected and knowledgeable individuals. The picture that came out after our initial but serious fact checking is that this article and its expose stand on strong legs. Wardheernews welcomes an opposing view point to this. In the runner up to the May, 2010 elections, the editorial board anticipates a healthy and heated debate on the fairness of the elections, with special attention given to its authenticity or the lack thereof of in the Somali Regional State.

______________________________

The election in the federal republic of Ethiopia is scheduled to be held on May 2010. For the first time, the Somali Region might hold its election the same day as the National Election Day. In light of the upcoming election, there is a wide discussion within the Somali Region and its Diaspora communities about what this election will bring for the region. Based on thorough analysis of the situation and the formidable interest group that runs the region, the authors argue that the status quo will continue as it is, if not worsen, and nothing will change in the way the Somali Regional State is governed. This essay is to shed some light on the core beneficiary group of the status quo and why this group will do everything in its power to block progressive individuals from coming into power.

The credibility of that false constitution was put to stern taste when Somali's, in their credulous state of mind, decided to organise a refrendum and followed every bit of the procedures stipulated therein.

According to the Constitution, if a region decides to pursue the secession option, its parliament (the regional parliament)must vote in favour by 2/3 majority. Then, the request is sent to Addis Ababa and the House of Federation (not the Parliament there) will have to endorse.

The ONLF got a unanimous vote in Jigjiga and prepared to send a delegation to Addis Ababa. The same night all Parliament members including the regional president were arrested and the parliament dissolved.

I am in no way a fan of the naivety shown by ONLF then, but this incident proves wrong those who say "puruse what you want peacefully". Unless they mean stop the secession dream (which can be suggested as a way out of the current mess), they should know the peaceful path for self-determination is not feasible.

By the way, the Tigre's run Ethiopia like a clan and not like a party. From the Airport, you will start to see who has the real power.

^How does a country dominated by one nation or another at any given time survive this long? And what are the possibilities of Tigrays sharing the power with the rest of Ethios?
