The Somalia university/college student disease: A question?

Salaamz, brothas and sistas

i would like to take this opportunity to say to da brotha that opened this topic. i have lived in an area in london that you could count the amount of somali people, hard to believe but its true. i now attend a Uni that contains soo many somalis, at different ages. But without straying away from the topic i personally think Uni is for education if anybody attends an academic institution for social reasons, then i guess they've got their bearings wrong. fair enough i've seen plenty of people say right i'm not going to talk to so and so coz they're this tribe... obviously somalis up to this day still discriminate each other, i love ma people but i ain't going out of ma way to please others, i have ma own objectives in life.

anyways i just wanna finish up by saying hang around and socialise with who ever but make sure you do the leading and not da following...

look after yourself people and be patient with life....Peace

'HUMBLE BROTHA i could not agree with you more...

your words are just what i've been straying back to say thanx for that!!!1!!!!

for this topic i gotta say..this issue reaches far beyond the academic level.. in regular sociable areas in the many somali communities i've had the pleaasure to observe i've seen alot that just don't really connect in ways which a person of the NORM would think they would..

it's mostly a lil' biggotry involved between somalis..if' it's not tribalism (yeah we all say it's a shame).. we find other ways to division our selves (i.e "that brutha don't use deoderant"lol) u know what i'm talking bout.. which is commmon AMONGST us(YOUNg GENerations) IGNORANt towards THE new peeps THE "so called" flight thirteen peeps..alot of other examples but i choose to list a few..

as to understand this social disturb* i will reffer to the "elementary kids" analogy " yeah we all had someone we liked back in grade school we gave trouble to (whether u threw sticks at them or not) in order to get there attention * but when they left and were annoyed we got LONELY and FELT BAD>>>

SAME WITH this *ish...lol. i'm just thinking aloud >>>>>>>>>>>.

at the university i go to currently SOMALIS dont' even talk dont' mention hang out..not only at the school but in the community too..

i asked one of they guys i know out here (we will reffer to him as X)" mr.X implies somalis out here don't hang out " THEY runn away from each other"(he said it as if it was NORmaL)..... i'm still pondering ABOUT this .. i will get back to you when i stop scratching my dome...peAce.AND ONE love people

some parodical quotable quotes">>>>

"united we conquered, devided we stand"

"ask not what i can do for you BUT WHAT you can do for me"

"..give ME LOVE, shaax,CANJERO or GIVE ME death"

"i want you:to love each other"

I go to a uni where there are alot of somalis but i really rather not chat to that many of them........when i strated frist i was like woooow all these somalis and i strated chating to everyone i later findout that they really not all that nice to eachother. They gossip alot about eachother there is no reall realationship in between somalis its fake. I know try staying away from the ppl at my uni that don't mean i dislike somalis it just means i am minding my own bussines and doing wat i am there which is to get an educatin. There is no one that loves somalis more than me but it takes alot of getting now them b4 i easly become friends with anyone know.

not only somalis, i would say,

u c..am at this coll, we are almost 150. it's all depend on who u can get alone, not with everyone ofcourse, but then, when i want to chat wit the person. first, i study the person, after than, my analyzation may provide me with aption, ideas i get from my research. u c, easy way to figure wat the person is like. i usually do that, well, i think it's a habit. donno also, i have got that from my friend.

thinin down the point, i think ppl do have their own reasonz of not getin alone wit another. pull out the trigger, wat cause te fire, well, the gun. think, the gun won't fire it's self. who is it??

ok..maybe somaliz do have the "virus". called "qabiil". still in them. but i don't how to cure that..only one think ....must read the QURAN MORE and por some "SALID MACSARO" on their head...lol

I have seen what most allude to in this topic happen but the fact is that tho Ethios and Pakis hang on in droves when it comes to helping soemone in their hour of need, they fall really short.Kissing on the cheeks among Ethiopians is just a mere formality more based on long help traditions rather than love among them.

However among somalis they might walk around campus with other people but deep inside when it comes to helping out a brother or a sister they have what it takes.

There r a lot of somalis at my college too....but they dont really run away from each others.......i think the majority of us know each others but we dont really hang out and stuff.....we might sit together, exchange books, and study together at school but not go out or chill together outside of the college...!!! When it comes to goin' out, i think one is only comfortable with their friends....just cuz i go to school with u does not qualify me to be ur friend....!!!

Salam

You ppl truly scare me. Is it really like that. Iam going to univ next yr HOPEFULLY york univ (toronto). I heard that there are a lot of somalis there,i would not want to be freinds with pakis or ethopians even at that level of my life.

I have had enough of those friendships. Not to say they are a horrible ppl. My best friends is actually Pakistani. But i just want to start connecting with my people and i want to see how its to have a good somali freind or a somali crew.

Girls how are u meeting any good men if you are not speaking to your ppl at unversity. Maybe i have a girlish fantasy but that's where i believe you could meet all the educated young guys.

Ha i will get back to all of you in 7 months and let you know how things go :D . Personally i will speak to everyone of them. You never know many of them could just be just shy.

Peace

Hibo

1 machine can od the work of 50men..but no 50machines can do the work of ONE extraordinary man!

intersting topic,

well ladies & gent's sadly i am unable o add much more of a valuble insight/experience in to the discussed matter...the reason>>>because there are very fiew Somalis in my uni (9 to be exact)...and to make the matter worse... 8 r old faarax's...there is appently 1 girl...i say again 1 girl!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>it goes without mentioning that she is not what u might call your average/typical somali las...indeed she sems rather confused ideologically as well as mentally(perhaps, lol)

she lives with nigerain/jamaican/english/irish/etc girls... and funnly enough i get on fine with the other girls accpet her ..lol.. i dont know why.. we never even had a decent conversation.

she seems quite frightend to be her self... or to even be seen associating with people of her kind...i am not quite sure as to why!

well..cheerious 4 now

I would love to hang-out with my somali fellow students, i.e. if i can find any. It is just that when i go to other states, i find alot somali young students who we have nothing in common. I know that is very ironic, but hey it is true. Alot young somalis (between 18-25 years) have had different childhood back grounds, for example, some have grown up in Kenya or Seria or India or Holland, when they try to get along there is always misunderstanding, 'cause there is that cultural differences. In my case, i could get along any somali student as long as we the same thinking level or Ideology. But I have to find one to begin with. But You should ask yourself, What would I talk to him/her about if we have nothing incommon? I guess the Answer would be.
