Deni Speaks

This speech by Deni shows few important things.

First, it shows the leadership of Puntland is accountable to the people. Second, as some people mentioned, the death toll is higer than we thought. Showering mortars to the city was a crime the Dayaano family has done to complicate the issue.

Deni appreciates how senestive the issue became. He is not an arogant in this issue, and shows humbleness in regard to the opposition. He is asking the help of everyone to resolve the issue. Furthermore, he said there is no military solutions on this issue, because the mercenaties do not care about loses. It is a hostage situation.

Also, like a real leader,  Deni is explaining himself to the people without blaming the opposition. On the other hand  it is a welcome situation where the leader is constrained by public opinioun.

We have being begging Farmaajo for four years to come and  talk to the people.

Not sure if talk is the appropriate solution in this case, Puntland authorities legitimacy is at stake and it’s monopoly on violence. Not sure what is holding Deni back, is it because he doesn’t want to spend any money on bombing the PIS place or is he from the shorter lineages of the respective family.

There is a lot of sabotaging and undermining,  he was convinced by some idiot circles this was small  issue, and will be resolved quickly,  he is feeling the pain of the people,  which is good.,

After two days fighting and cease fire, he was told to go in again and  finish them off, the diyaano militias dig in and made massive damage,, on 3rd day.

Hope they find solution.

I would only add that Puntland had been hidding under the carpet a lot of " Badbaado Qaran"  type militia both in Bari, Mudug and Nugaal. It is fragile agreement that allows clan militia  or cerain region to have a veto power to avoid elimination. Except during the era of C/laahi Yusuf who had total control,  these  contradictions were managed in blanced way to avoid an out right winner.

And this might continue until real elections take place. Furthermore, Puntland leadership believes the same arrangement in Somalia where federal states and Mogadishu  based federal government should be in a balanced act that denies a total domination from the national government until total trust among the people and regions are  achieved. In fact, the federalists will always tell you that the Somali project must be slow and incremental to reach the desired goal, even if it takes decades.

There are even Puntlanders who believe that a one man one vote in Puntland might destablize the region. Mr. Deni tried to face head on a mess that had been covered up for years. In another word, the Boosaaso fiasco is probably a smaller version of the untouchable MOgadishu oligarchs that every president avoids. Sooner or later, someone must face them to establish order and functioning government.

Now, the Americans who have created warlords around the world to fight the extremists,  they themselves ctreated,  should call their dayaano family dogs back. 15 years ago they financed Mogadishu warlords to crush the Islamic courts with a disatreous result which created the Al-shabaab phenomena that Somalia is fighting today. THey paid Afghan warlords to fight the Taliban, they created YPG in Syria to fight ISIS and destablize Turkey. The result is always bad.

Who knows, this Boosaaso war might also finally eliminate for good the elders who shouldn't have any business in a modern state building. Tribal chiefs are found only in Indian reserves where poverty and underdevelopment exists.
