The War Of The Turjuns And The Gar-cads!

Harun was a guest in Mansur’s house. He saw Mansur’s wife and instantly fell in love with her. Ilwad saw him and also instantly fell in love with him. They ran away to his clan’s town that same night.

Mansur went to the leader of his sub clan (his own brother) and complained about the injustice done to him by Harun. He believed that Ilwad was abducted. Ahmad-Magnoon, the leader of the Gar-cad clan was moved by what his brother told him. He promised to do all that is in his power to rescue his kidnapped sister-in-law. He sent messengers to all the neighbouring sub clans that make up the Gar-cad clan and requested that they send soldiers and material for this coming war. The neighbouring sub-clans, moved by tribal fever and disgust at such a cowardly action by a respected and well looked after guest, sent double the numbers Ahmed Magnoon asked for.

Meanwhile, after days of walking, hiding and magnificent lovemaking, Harun and Ilwad reached the lands of his own clan. He ran to his father (Cali Baruud) and told him the whole story. The wise old man was not happy with his son’s actions but seeing that the woman loved his son and that there was no way he could send her back, he hoped he could persuade the Gar-cad clan to accept compensation in place of the kidnapped woman. He sent them a messenger but was disappointed with their reply. The Gar-cad clan told him that it was too late for compensation and that only war is going to purify and restore their slighted honour.

Baruud tolaayed his way all over his native land of Turjumaanya and managed to amass a great army of twenty thousand warriors. He told them of the Gar-cad threats and appealed to their sense of pride and honour. He told them that the Turjun people couldn’t sit back while a weak boned, cowardly and foreign clan such as the Gar-cads makes idol threats and boasts about the damage it is going to do. His people were roused and ready to fight.

The two sides met at the borders of Turjumaanya. The first battle was short and swift. The Gar-cads won the day and won themselves the plaudits and the booty. However, when this booty was to be divided amongst the leaders of the various sub clans of the Gar-cads, Ahmed Magnoon got greedy and wanted to keep the best parts for himself. This upset Abokor-Iblis, the leader of the Dardaaran sub clan (he got his name because of his fearlessness and bravery). Some of the other leaders attempted to mediate but Mangoon refused to give way and cited his position as the leader of the entire Gar-cad clan as a reason for allowing him to keep the booty. Abokor-Iblis also refused to back down and insisted that he be given his chosen part of the booty. The mediators failed to solve the problem and Abokor-Iblis retired to his side of the war camp to think matters over and clam his anger.

The spies of the Turjun’s passed the news of the fallout to their leaders and Baruud sent out his elder son at the head of a massive army so that they could provoke the Gar-cads out to fight and thus take advantage of Abokor-Iblis’s temporary retirement. They believed his absence was a blessing from god and that this proves the legitimacy of their fight.

The two sides met outside the main city of Turjumaanya and, this time, the Turjun’s won the day. The victory was mainly down to their young leader (and second son of Cali Baruud) Hisham Haraad. Cowardly Harun, though he fought well in the first battle, did not bother leaving his lover’s arms this time. This angered noble Hisham and he, for the millionth time, moaned to his illustrious father about the reason for this whole war. Hisham always believed that the Gar-cads were wronged and that they had every reason to start a war against his people. He also advised that Ilwad should have been sent back to her people despite her love for Harun. Hisham did not dislike Ilwad; on the contrary, he actually liked her and thought her the best sister-in-law any man could wish for. But Hisham was a noble man who revered rules and traditions. He was ashamed of his own brother.

On the other side of the city, Magnoon called a war council to discuss this unexpected loss and plan for the next battle. Most of the leaders of the other sub clans told him the only reason they lost was because Iblis was not in the battle field sending shivers and fear into the hearts of the enemy with his great shouts and thirsty sword. Magnoon reluctantly conceded the point and agreed to give back all the booty to Iblis.....

To be continued (should I continue?)......

Ps

I wonder who will guess it first.

tut, tut, tut, on the contrary, you actually showed that clan is not everything. very disappointing -

Reer Burco should redeem themselves by disassociating this vagabond named ~Ngonge - I should dedicate an earnest thread to give them an opportunity to do just that – so that we can put to bed this whole notion; about clan being everything. :D
