Hibo Posted March 20, 2002 To me being somali is: 1) Listening to my parents, than my own desires...except for the man I will marry. 2)Helping out anyone I consider to be a somali, ragardless of whether I know them or not. 3)wearing dirac & kuntiino, when the weather permits. 4) Taking pride in saying " i am somali".. 5) Listening to qaraami music & buraanbur booditaan.... 6) Having a cup of tea every afternoon with heel, qarfo, iyo sanjabiil... bigeeys ama cadeeys depends on my mood. 7) Having Xalwo, sambuusi, doolsho, icun, shushumow, iyo buskud in Eid iyo any kind of xalfad... 8) Helping elders when they need, without them asking for it. 9) Referring every older person I meet as adeer ama eedo ama hooyo. 10) Not kissing others ass, for personal gain... Being a Somali means you don’t hesitate to help when a Somali needs you. Being a Somali means you don’t frown upon your own. Being a Somali I forgive those who offend me; and try to teach them what’s right though I know it would take time and hard work to achieve it. Being a Somali I have to believe in my people and myself however bad the situations gets. As a Somali I love myself; my family and most of all my people the fellow Cushites. As a Somali I believe I deserve the best and try to get the best. As a Somali I believe that success is result of intelligent effort; As a Somali I believe I will get out of my life exactly what I put in to it. Being Somali is standing in corners and make alot of noise talking about this and that and most likely qabiil (bad side of it). The good side is talking about humour and stories about life in the west and how they are coping. Stories like ...
