A Mother's Dilemma

NGONGE

(Pardon the Somali. Five minute job nooh). :D

In a town in Somalia, the triumphant Shabab fighters managed to defeat the Ahlu Al Sunna militia and drive them out to retake the town for the second time.

An elderly mother hobbles into her house and starts calling out her children

“War Cabdo, Cumaro, Calo,Caashay soo baxa”

One of her sons asks “Hee hoyo, maxa dhacay?”

Mother: So wada baxa, Al Shabab ayaa magaalada qabsaday.

Son: O miyaan la dagaalamayna, hoyo?

Mother: Maya maya doqon yahoo. Soo bax oo caliinta so qaad.

Daughter: So taan caliinta qaadnay markay Ahlu El Sunna magaalda qabsadeen?

Mother: Naa Ahlu El Sunta waa laga badiyaay. Soo bax oo jilbaabka ha ilaawin.

The mother runs across the street whilst holding a green branch and dragging her four children behind her. She sees the crowds lining up on the side of the road and welcoming the conquering mujahedeen. She quickly surveys her children and notices that the boys have their scarves resting on their shoulders.

Mother: Balaayo! Why have you boys got your scarves on your shoulders like Ahlu El Sunta? Cover your faces now. Caashaay, adna cover your face.

The Shabab fighters troop past and the people start shouting and cheering for them. The mother waves her branch in the air with one hand and shakes her nearest child with another as she orders him to shout: Allahu Akbar!

A month later...

The same mother rushes into her house and starts shouting:

“War Cabdo, Cumaro, Calo, Caashaay soo baxa”

The children come out running and ask her what the problem is. She tells them that Al Shabab have been defeated and that Ahlu El Sunna had taken over the town. She sees her daughter trying to put her Burka on and starts shouting:

“Naa ha na dilin wax yahay waalan. Bahashan xun naga tuur oo masar yar madaxa saar”

The family run to the same previous spot and stand shaking their branches in the air. The mother looks at her sons and notices that one of them has his scarf around his face. She slaps him hard and starts wailing about her bad fortune and these children that will be the end of her.

As the victorious Ahlu El Sunna Mujahdeen troop past, she starts shouting Allahu Akbar! Her daughter pulls her aside and says “Hoyo, Allahu Akbar waa tii Al Shabab ee aamus yanaay kuwan na maqlin”. The mother sees the sense of what her daughter said and stops shouting. She turns to her children and asks “Oo kuwan maxa lago dhaweeya hadaay Allahu Akbar inoo diideen?”

One of the sons lifts his tusbax above his head and starts shouting “Aaax ya Cabdulqaadir” as his mother and other siblings join in.

A month later..

One of the sons runs into the house and starts calling for his mother. He tells her that the Ethiopian army have taken over the town and asks:

“Hoyo, markaan soo dhaweeno ma Allaho Akbar baynu odhan mise Aaax ya Cabdulqaadir?”

Mother: “ Hoyo, yalaam iska dheh. Yalaam yalaam iska dheh”.

Ahlu Sunnah also say 'Allahu Akbar'. They are dad Muslimiin ah.

Love the story regardless, very despairing and funny at the same time.

Forget about going to Burco or Hargeisa for a long long time or expect to be punished for slandering both Al Shabab and Ahlu Al Sunna at the same time.

Peace, Love & Unity.

^^ Only Japanese poets can see anything in stationary objects, saaxib. If I spend a whole week thinking I would still not find anything new to say about him. Horta miya la hubba in o noolyahay? Maybe a Shabab rocket got him. :D
