An additional Chinese Delegation from Beijing expected to arrive in Hargeisa

Recommended Posts

China's Ambassador to Somalia has been in Hargeisa since Saturday and has not met with president Muse Biixi.

A high level delegation from Beijing is expected to arrive n Hargeisa.

It seems China has freaked out Taiwan setting up shop next to its only Military Base outside China.

Somaliland is playing hardball.

It is getting very interesting.

Taiwan's Foreign Ministry spokes person reiterates that Taiwan and Somaliland have direct communications and their relationship is built on shared values.

"Asked about Somaliland’s plans, as reported by the Web site, ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou (歐江安) told a news briefing in Taipei that the ministry would not comment on opinions of anonymous sources.

Taiwan and Somaliland maintain effective communications, and their alliance is built on their shared values of protecting freedom, democracy and human rights, the spokeswoman said.

This is effectively what China doesn't understand. China is not compatible with Somaliland and hence it is this very reason why the Chinese delegation in Hargeisa will go back empty handed.

Agreed all that, but on top of that, there are other issues also besides that. And by that I mean, as you know in our "Somaliland's Culture", we really don't like "over-muscled-up-bullies", which is what PRC does it across to the third-world with its "wolf-warrior diplomacy". Particularly in the sense of bullying, diplomatically and financially, any nation or state who does anything they so much disagree with it.

Absolutely. Cashar fiican ayaa loo dhigay.

But in the grand scheme of things, this issue is one of principles, Somaliland will maintain its relations with Taiwan because it makes sense.

yes, China has a lot of money. But money is not everything. If you want to see the legacy of China in Africa, one needs to look closely at Angola, Mozambique and Zambia. Not the shining examples of success.

The Chinese have offered Somaliland development package if Somaliland broke ranks with Taiwan. Obviously Somaliland rejected the manoeuvre.

China is scared the new relationship between Somaliland and Taiwan will undo decades of isolating Taiwan from the world, specially in Africa.

Somaliland is not budging.
