People are dying in Somalia in record numbers due to COVID. The disease has not spread very rapidly. Neeftaa ku dhegtay ayaad maqli. The goverment is not reporting actual death numbers because we don't have the tools to collect that important data from all corners of the land.

My relatives are telling us there is massive death in the country due to COVID, specially among the elderly.

Very sad situation.

No mask, $5 fine, Banaadir administration says

2021311637510326551295259.jpg

Banaadir Regional Administration has announced a $5 penalty for those who fail to wear face masks as the city battles with the COVID19 menace.

The BRA said Wednesday wearing of face masks was now compulsory and those are who fail to adhere to the rule will be fined.

Somalia has recorded continual increases in COVID19 cases as the second wave ravages the population. As of March 10, a total of 326 people had succumbed to the disease according to official records from the ministry of health.

There are fears the toll could be much higher since not all cases are captured by the health ministry.

Mogadishu has since recorded upwards of 4700 cases since the first case of the disease was recorded a year ago.

Somalia is yet to receive the COVID19 vaccines but is part of the WHO Covax program to distribute the vaccine to developing countries.

Ilaahay ha u naxariisto marxuumka. There are now several medications proven to treat Covid-19 so the hospitals in our homeland should have brought in those medications and a good number of ventilators along with oxygen plants to treat patients. These things cost much less than what the useless Somali politicians spend on "election" campaigns. Also our governments should have brought Sputnic V, Johnson & Johnson, and  Astrazeneca vaccines from Russia, India, and elsewhere. They don't necessarily have to give it for free but could sell it to those who want vaccinated.

Tallaabo,

Aamiin,

The problem is not lack of resources or even medicine as of now. It is a lack of leadership and public that's not willing to listen.

Even as the new variant was killing hundreds in Xamar every day, people behaved as nothing was happening. My saw sister young men in 20s dying left to right. Yet no one was talking the thing seriously. I am just happy she too didn't catch the thing.
