Somali women and Sex

Hallo all,

I dont know where to begin.

Well, to start with let me express my ack/ment for the comments, critique and questions raised in response to my question. Reading your reactions has been my mid-morning break for the past days: I enjoyed coming here....of course hoping to find some useful tips.

It’s funny how disillusioned the human mind can be at times. However, I am sure you will all agree that, despite the critique, my point has generated a though-provoking discussion that went beyond the initial topic. It took us to different dimensions; discoveries on wild fantasies with cats and bees!!, explorations on the meaning of sexuality, reproduction, orgasm, etc in Somali surroundings, but also from personal perspectives. I am glad it did. Am sure you are too.

I came here seeking information on a topic that was and still is of great importance to me. Some suggested I should have used more words, more colour, more this, more that in making my point. Some had difficulty with the topic in general. Others assumed I am a man and laughing my head off somewhere. I was laughing my head off alright….at the likes of those who wasted their time making silly assumptions and commentaries. You don’t know about my situation. You just bloody don’t.

My q was directed to Somali women who have been through FGM and were/are having problems in their sexual lives. I came here because (1) I can’t find this kind of info anywhere (i.e. sexual problems due to FGM) (2) I thought anonymity would help (i.e. stimulate a constructive discussion-esp on SOL) (3) I sought personal advice from sisters (4) address the issue as it’s inadequately talked about….. many Somali women evidently admit that they have no sex. probs., or say they know a friend who does, when in fact they do. I wonder what shape this discussion would have taken… had this been an-only-women’s forum… I might be the first to start this topic but am not the only one with this problem.

I want to thank the sisters- and men who have replied with some useful tips. I want to esp thank the sisters who have written me PMs. BUT encourage them to publicly share their views with others as well =enlightening to many.

Thanks a lot and I hope to read more… and i hope this topic stays on track....!!
