Somalis in Ethiopia should elect a regional party free of EPRDF and Addis influence.

Ethiopia is going through big political changes since since the fall of the TPLF led JUnta. This change came thanks to the Oromo uprising that changed the Ethiopian political landscape for decades. Yet, many Ethiopian politicians including Abiy and his Amhara backers want to subvert the will of the people and create a single party dictatorship.  Last week , the ruling class had proclaimed to open the EPRDF party to other ethnic communities including the Somali and Afar communities.

The EPRDF dictatorship that ruled as a communist style party since 1991, had always transformed itself with the changing of time , and at this juncture, they want to enlarge itself by bringing members from Somalis and others. In order to create false narrative and entice  the Somalis ruling class  in Jigjiga, they promised to make  the Somali language  one of the official languages of the Ethiopian government. That is not even the major demands Somalis are looking at the moment.

It is the old Ethiopian colonial wolf trying to wear sheep's cloth and cheat the Somali people one more time. If the so called " Somali Democratic party" which doesn't have any party structure want to join the EPRDF , that is their choice, but the Somalis in this region want to have a regional party that is free from the influence of the Addid ruling class. It has been the desire of the Somalis to elect their own leaders and be autonomous in their internal administrative government. To take way that choice from the people and once more deliver them to the Addis hyena is unacceptable.

A regional government affiliated with the EPRDF will  be , as usual, more loyal and dependent to the whims of the Amhara and the Oromo that is surrounded Abiy. It is very important that the  ONLF or other Somali parties take the helm and win the next regional election. Tthey will be an elected leaders with poppolar mandate from the Somali people. The best way to achieve that goal is to make the ONLF an inclusive Somali party that stands for the interest of the Somali people.

The new leader of the ONLF Mr. C/rahman Sheikh Mahdi (Maadey) is the best Somali leader in the region at the moment. He is a man who had been in the struggle for over 35 years starting as early as he finished  school in the seventies. He seemed to be a genuine Somali who is well versed with history of the region and the desire of the Somalis to be free. My community or others hadn't showed the same organizational capacity and the will to challenge the Addis ruling class so far. Ahmed Shide , who  in earlier  days seemed a well organized and educated  civil servant, became just another stooge carrying the water of the Addis ruling class. The current president Mustafe Cagjar is even more willing to join the Amhara agenda and eventually join the Addis ruling class at the expense of the Somalis. AS of this writing , Cagjar and his party SDP will be joining  willingly to the EPRDF and create a regional EPRDF.

The best hopes of having a pan Somali party that advocates for  the interest of Somalis is to vote and support Mr.Maadey.

So far the TPLF had refused to join the new entity, and Jawar Mohamed---who is in Calgary, AB  tonight----want to create his own Oromo dominated federal party that might not win the federal election but will have substantial members inside the parliament to protect the interest of the Oromo. The Amhara might split in two or three. So, this new EPRDF will basically be a third of Oromo, Amhara, Guraghe  and Cagjar .

In conclusion, I do not care how many groups join the EPRDF including Cagjar and company,  for me the most important aspect of this is to have an elected  pan Somali regional party managing the Somali kilil. Anything less than that would be throwing the fruits of the uprising that changed Ethiopia.

Here Jawar giving advice to Somalia: stop washing your dirty laundry in public. Do not bring to Oromo. Start from minute 5:00

Addis Abeba, November 21/2019- In a statement sent to Addis Standard, Mohammed Olad, media and communication advisor of Mestafe Omer, Somali regional state vice president, said that Eng. Mohamed Shalle, SDP Central Committe Bureau Head announced via the Somali Region State Boradcaster that the party’s Executive Committee (EC) and Central Committee (CC) members “don’t have the power to dissolve SDP, Somali Democratic Party.”

“He unequivocally declared that it is only party congress that has the mandate to do that,” Mohammed said in the statement sent late tonight, further quoting Mohamed Shalle as telling the regional state broadcaster that as of now, EPRDF don’t have the mandate to dissolve SDP or any other Agar [allied] party.

“All they can do is offer a merger. And for that to happen, our EC, CC as well as party wide congress and cadres should all debate and approve if and only if they think it is in the best interest of the Somali people and their unwavering demand for self-autonomy and the protection of the constitutionally enshrined sacred pact – that is multinational federalism,” Mohamed Shalle told Somali regional state broadcaster, according to the statement from Mohammed Olad.

The news comes as today’s meeting of the EPRDF Council, which was boycotted by TPLF for the same legal reasons, approved EPRDF’s merger, Prosperity Party manifesto as well as its bylaws.

Che,

The same Mr. Mohamed Olad in interview said that" EPRDF waa Xisbi aanu bah wadaag nahay". Do not buy the delay. THey will come to Jigjiga hold a bogus shir and everyone will vote .

Besides, since when the party membership ever voted for anyone? all decisions will be made in Addis by Shide and Cagjar.

I agree with you. I think they will. This gives the ONLF a chance to be THE Somali party. It looks like EPP might end to be a party without base.

Very bad developments for both the Somali and Afar, but of course worst for Somali than any other peoples in Ethiopia. The whole year Abiy and his friends have been laser focused on Kililka.

ONLF was the last organization negotiated with from Eritrea. That was made on purpose. And Abiy and Agjar succeeded. Weaker OLF was among the first and it took advantage of the wide open environment in Oromia. By the time ONLF came everything has been tightened, kililka administration has been turned upside down.

Most Somalis were focused and misdirected to punishing Illey. So much so Agjar can jump all the way to Amxara, throw the "baby autonomy with the bath water" and nobody could mount any opposition without the label of separatist or Tigray stooge.

No matter how corrupt or how bad the relation between Tigray and Somalis was, its based on one fundamental common interest. Autonomy and if wanted and time and space is conducive Independence.

What Abiy/Agjar managed to do was convince Somalis actually buy and threaten Somalis into repeating the lie.

galbeedi,

I hope you are right and ONLF can revive and continue the 100 year war for self government against British, Italy, Menelik, French, Mengistu...by different groups personalities and different times.

Self government with maximum autonomy is the basis of every society.

Abiy says his new party will have official languages Oromo, Amxara, Somali, Afar and Tigrigna.

This would have been very funny if it was not being bragged about by the likes of Cagyar.

Is it easier to make someone in Gonder speak Somali or someone in Jigjiga to speak Amxara or Oromo?

The answer to that is so easy a child can understand.

Cagjar thinks we are all fools.. THere are zero Somalia in Gondar.

By the way, Jawar Mohamed was in Calgary this week . 600-700 Oromos from Calgary, EDmonton, Saskatchewan and Vancouver filled a big ballroom hotel and raised over $200,000 dollars. According to those who were present, there were also about 40 Amahara protesters were carrying the usual signs calling Jawar terrorist and other names.

THey probably hate the two names he was carrying, Oromo and Mohamed. He said, the Amhara think Ethiopia means them. He insisted on having fair and free election and for the Oromo and other regions to elect their own regional government without interference from Oromo.

A conference is now necessary with representative/observers from all enclaves about Kililka.

Autonomy is critical and is under concerted attack from Somalis who think only anti Illey and want to ride that horse to Ethiopia, Amxara that are always terrified of the nomad fighting character, Oromos that have never achieved what the Somali has always taken for granted, the capacity not to be ensalved.

Everyone is afraid of self governing Somali, except Afar and Tigray who never minded an autonomous Somali.

Even Jawar is terrified of self governing Somali since Oromia without clear connection to Djibouti or Berbera or others is pointless.
