Ayan Hirsi seeks French protection - She needs 393 EU signatures fo her protection

PARIS (AFP) — Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Somali-born former Dutch deputy threatened with death for her outspoken criticism of Islam, sought European protection and possible French citizenship at the start of a visit to Paris on Sunday.

French star philosopher Bernard-Henri Levy has spearheaded a campaign for Hirsi Ali to receive honorary French citizenship -- and financial aid to cover her security costs -- and Sunday night saw several hundred sympathisers attend a support meeting in the French capital.

"I hope that the initiative of the French intellectuals will be honoured, and that my security problem will be resolved, and for that to happen I have to have the French nationality," 38-year-old Hirsi Ali told AFP in an interview.

"I don't expect anything," added Hirsi Ali, who has been living under tight police protection since the murder of Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh by an Islamic extremist in 2004.

Hirsi Ali is threatened with death for her role in writing the script of Van Gogh's film "Submission", about the treatment of women under Islam. A note targeting her by name was found on his body.

"I'm fighting for a change in the minds of people," she told AFP, saying she hoped to convince Muslims that "the principles of liberal democracy, that the principles of freedom are far more precious than the principles of Islam."

"Islam is not compatible with democracy, but Muslims can live in a democracy," she Ali said, stressing that she was "fighting only with peaceful means."

Hirsi Ali left the Netherlands for the United States in May 2006 following a bitter row which broke out when she admitted lying about her age and name in her Dutch asylum request.

She does not receive financial support for her protection from the Dutch government while she is out of the country, and for legal reasons the United States cannot cover her costs, she said.

Another possible solution could be "a European fund that will protect people like me whose lives are threatened in the name of Islam," she said.

Hirsi Ali is currently raising funds to pay for her own protection and works for a conservative think-tank, the American Enterprise Institute in Washington.

Those attended Sunday night's gathering in Paris included Levy, Socialist former presidential candidate Segolene Royal and Rama Yade, France's junior minister for human rights.

"We are looking into the way to get you access to France, to naturalisation. Not helping you would go against our principles. Forgetting you would be to forget who were are," Yade said.

Yade read out a message of support from French President Nicolas Sarkozy expressing his determination "to act with the Europeans to put into place a collective fund to ensure the protection of people under threat" during France's presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2008.

Another top French official said said that she was in favour of Hirsi Ali being given honorary French citizenship.

This "which would be a guarantee for her a signal to those who threaten" her, Valerie Letard, secretary of state responsible for the protection of women, said in a statement.

On Thursday Hirsi Ali she heads to Brussels where around 60 European deputies are trying to obtain the 393 signatures needed to secure funding for her protection.

Born into an orthodox Muslim family in Somalia in 1969, Hirsi Ali had her genitals excised at the age of five and was later exiled with her family in Kenya. She fled to the Netherlands in 1992 to escape an arranged marriage.

She obtained political asylum, followed by Dutch nationality five years later, becoming a deputy for the VVD party in 2002.

Hirsi Ali says she broke definitively with Islam following the September 11 attacks in the United States and has since become a fierce defender of secularism and Muslim women's rights.

She caused shockwaves in 2002 by describing Islam as a "backward culture", and again in 2004 by calling the Prophet Mohammed a "pervert" and a "tyrant". In a recent interview with British newspaper The Independent, she described Islam as a "new fascism."

She was also in France to receive the Simone de Beauvoir prize for women's freedom, which she was co-awarded with the Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen.

^Hiding from 'Allah'? she would have no problem with that, but to hide from those who claim that there is no compulsion in Islam in one breath and murder you if you choose not to believe on the other,is not easy job. So far ,she has been doing extremely well.

If this is not madness and those that threaten her life are not criminals i am truly at a loss .....i just dont understand.

In the ancient times when GOD swt sent us messengers to warn us or those before us that they were on the wrong path ,they bowed down to idols. Idols are not GOD and so could neither defend themselves nor those that put their faith in them.

We are now supposedly much cleverer than them for we believe in GOD and only bow down to HIM.

But GOD swt sent us scripts in order that they may guide us. They tell us how to obey HIM and live as HE wishes us to. If the scripts cant protect themselves by providing us with truths that are clear and valid for all times to the intended purpose then ought we also not to protect it by means that in all honesty will invalidate the whole purpose for it all.

Idols needed defending for they were not the true GOD ,does GOD ALLMIGHTY need defending ? Not if you are going to claim that GOD is allmighty ,the creator of all that is ,the sustainer of the universe ,all seeing and all hearing. We dont defend GOD for those that we are defending HIM from are also creatures of HIM and we can only defend islam by proving that whatever evil or wrongs is claimed of it is in deed false and that is how far it all goes. We can only defend our own persons by the same methods and our bodies we defend by avoiding physical harm .

In conclusion she is wrong to claim falsehood of islam but ours is to prove her claims false and not to violate her. Those that threaten her are in fact more wrong than she is.

peace

^Oh No , she ain't a victim at all, its just that she is threatened to life and MUST have bodyguards 24/7 ;) , while the defenders of the faith blissfully justify their violence against her, probably to please and defend a msg from an omniscient and omnipotent God ( Allah ).

It simply beggars belief!

She called for war against the people that threatened her. She says she is at "war" with their religion. She says Saudi Arabia should be bombed! She calls for a political, economic and military against Islam. The majority of Muslims in Europe won't break the law and attack her. In fact, Muslims politely asked to remove a Quran from her feet, when she purposely placed it on the floor in a conference, whilst adressing them. But there are those that will attack her. I'm not making a judgment whether they are wrong or right. All im saying is that if you're got to war, there will always be people that come after you. Perhaps if she was a Muslim preacher saying the same things about secularism and Christianity, she would've been charged with inciting religous hatred?

In any case, if she is killed, she'll be considered as a "martyr" for Atheism and Johnny B can stick a picture of her on his bedroom! In the meantime pray that your idol doesn't come to any harm!

No I dont have her email but if u try harder, iam sure u can get her address though it would be difficult for her bodygfaurds to trust you.

I think this woman is already in deep hell on earth. If she lived in an islamic state, sharia law would have been carried out, but now that she is here, and the fact that she is not the only islamophobic/anti islamic person these days, we as muslims should leave her in peace. Despite her hatred for islam and the media tarnishing ismalic image, Islam is growing faster than ever. Al xamdulilaah.

May Allah guide us all to right path.

The fact of the matter is that she knew what she was getting herself into. Did she really think everyone would just watch her crappy little movie and not get mad? It's quite obvious to me, and about 99% of the rest of the planet, that she would be the target of violence for what she has said about the diin. You can't stick your finger in a light socket, and then cry and complain when you get zapped, that is just moro*nic. She's simply getting what she asked for.

How? by not believing in what they believe?

And what is the name of her Army? 'AyanAirForce'?

And where is that country called 'Islam' situated?

Not that i could believe she actually did this, nor would she assumingly have a need to do so ,but do you frankly believe a Quran placed at somebody's feet is somehow less 'holy' than one placed under another's armbit, therefore she must pay?

You obviously neglect condemning their violence, but willingly highlight their right to go after.

Isen't it wonderful to have faith?! so right, so just, so compationate, so forgiving, yet so defenceless.

What could she possibily say that haven't been already said in every friday prayers for the last fourteen centuries?

If i'd keep pictures of all those who died becouse they lacked belief in the existence of a specefic Deity on my bedroom wall, i'd need something like the great wall of China, but now that you mention it, maybe, just maybe, i'd hang the pictures of 'Muslims' who got killed by other 'Muslims'.

No, she said there was no war against any Islamic extremism but Islamic itself! She also called for America to bomb Saudi Arabia!

And what is the name of her Army? 'AyanAirForce'?

You don't need to have an army to be at a war!

And where is that country called 'Islam' situated?

You have to ask your ideological atheofascist "edo" Ayan Hersi! She is the one who said that there is war against all "Islam".

Not that i could believe she actually did this

Why would she not do such a thing? To soft, nice or you don't want to believe such an innocent human being is capable of doing those types of actions!I read from western journalists who observed her behaviour at a conference doing such things .

You obviously neglect condemning their violence, but willingly highlight their right to go after.

I don't need to condemn anything! Nor did I say they have a right to go after her. All I'm saying is that it is common sense that if you declare war on a group of people and insult them, logically some of those people will come after you! That is the reality of the world we live in. You want to make yourself like a Malcolm X or Ghandi Type figure, then you have to prepared to live with the consequences that come with it. That means you have to expect bombs, bullets and knifes. In this case we know that Ayan Hersi is a lying pretender, whom in time will even be sidelined by her ZioCon masters because even they realise that she is a liability to them. That is to say she is no Martin Luther King
