Unlike coalition forces Turkey doesn't destroy towns . Afrin is an example.

There are half truths, misrepresentations, propaganda and even lies  against the Turkish operations in Syria in the news media . First, if you want to compare how humane is the Turkish operations in northern Syria, just compare the city of Afrin to Raqqa, the ISIS capital or even Masul, the second largest city in Iraq. Barely 5% of Afrin city was destroyed and the downtown of was almost intact. After talking over these towns along with the Syrian opposition, the Turkish quickly start rebuilding schools, hospitals and infrastructure for the Syrian refugees to come back and ressettle . Many towns in the west of the river Euphrates are now vibrant towns.

Second, Turkey is not targeting everything Kurds. There are 300,000 Kurds who fled Syria and settled among the Kurds citizens of Turkey. Furthermore, the Kurds in northern syria doesn't own most of these cities in the east like Manbij and others. Before the war,  the Syrian Kurds were only 9% of the population with some strongholds in Hasakah and the Iraqi border. Today they control 30% of  Syria thanks to the war and the displacement of millions of Syrians Arabs.

Syria was 70% Sunni Muslims, 10% were Alawi and other Shia sects and 10% Christians. There were Palestinian refugees, Turkmen, Assyrians, Iraqi refugees  and others. The so called ISIS and its sidekick Al-qaeda had mostly caused the destruction of the Sunni population both in Iraq and Syria. The second biggest victim of these extremists were  the Arab Christians who lost their status and mostly fled the middle east. The Arab Christians,  who trace their ancestry over a thousand years,  were  destroyed by these wars waged by America in the middle east for the last 30 years. If the war mongering Evangelicals care about Christianity, they should at least have some sympathy for their fellow eastern Christians. Probably being brown christian is  one major reason  to ignore their plight.   If that is not the case ,why the Irish, Italian and other  Catholics,  who were poor and destitute just little over a century ago when they landed in America,  want to deny the Latin Catholics who want  to enter the United states. and have the same opportunity.?

The dilemma here is that Turkey is a well established member of the NATO alliance. Article 5 of the NATO charter demands that if Turkey is attacked others must come to her aid, yet everyone one is watching while Turkey is bombed daily . Airports, stadiums and restaurants were bombed either by ISIS or the PKK Kurds. The  narrative that the YPG Kurds were fighting ISIS on someone else's behalf is false. They were allying themselves with America to curve a homeland from northern Syria after the collapse of the regime  just like Yemeni and Somalia style scenarios.  Why would the United States would choose a Marxist group from a NATO ally is beyond reckless of American arratic policy moves. Without Turkey, the second largest NATO army after US, the Soviet UNion would have had a footstep in the mediterranean long ago. Who were  the ally of America for 70 years? Turkey not the non state mercenaries who were paid, ' a lot of money and equipment' according to Trump.

Turkey can't allow tens of thousands of illegal actors and foreign powers in her southern door steps. If these bleeding hearts care about the plight of civilians, Assad and Russia are bombing Idlip as we speak. They watched for seven years as Assad massacred hundreds of thousands while making the largest refugee exodus in modern times. We have a Shia ideology inspired religious movement called Houthis in Yemen who want to dominate the majority and establish theocracy , yet no one is accusing them of extremism or usurping power. On the other hand , a non violent Muslim brotherhood movement , who want to participate democracy and elections are killed and imprisoned by the Egyptian dictator who has blood in his hands, yet no one is talking about their suffering. We come a long way to understand the selective cry of the media.

Twe years ago I said that if Turkey survives 2017 , it will be unstoppable, and could became a real power. It could be susceptible for some economy pressures from outside, but as history has shown, they could survive.

Where is the so called civilian massacre?

So far, most of the civilian deaths are from the Turkey side. Indiscriminate shells from YPG is hitting Turkish towns. Today a mortar just killed 10 civilians in two towns. THere were no massacre when Turkey and Syrian rebels took over Afrin and the land at the west of Euphrates river. Tthe Kurdish fighters just moved out. Here is Afrin just after been liberated by Turkey two years ago. The downtown is almost intact. Compare this to Raqqa.

Here is Raqqa

Hopefully the Turkish can wrap their operation in the shortest time possible. The groups of Syrians that are with them now don't have much in common with each other. That was problem in Afrin as well. Syrian groups who generally get support from Turkish,  fighting each other.

The Kurdish will always be in the same situation with every empire or superpower. That is what the British and French empires did, and America cannot be any different.

How ignorant can some American and European get, trying to threaten sanctions on Turkish. Erdogan has seen how sanctions benefited Russia. It made it the no.1 food sufficient and wheat exporter.

Turkish have home based education, manufacturing research trade with Euroasia...Sanction may affect few months, but for people that are proud of their heritage no big deal.

I hope America do not give the Turkish F-35. That will make them produce their own with some input from Russia.

galbeedi,

Turkish have long history. Even in their lowest days, they were always significant. They have fought against and made friendships with every power in the world. British, French, American, Russian, Austro Hungarian...you name it.

They are now good friends with both Albanians and Serbs. Good friends with Persians. They both had turns colonizing each other.

The Turkish feet are well planted on the ground. The Pashmerga are allies of Turkish since they know if you cannot live with your neighbor, you cannot live with anyone.

Even the English and French fight all the time and sometimes become brothers.

You are bit unfair on Assad, but that is to be expected.

Xaaji smells recognition everywhere. He thinks supporting the Kurds helps his case. So many Somalilanders are conflicted and don't have a principle. No one in his right mind should support a terrorist communist group like the YPG.

America traveled 10,000 miles to confront the perceived threat of terrorism that might  originate from Syria, yet people are surprised about Turkey securing its border. According to the latest news from captured towns most of the kurds captured are from Iran and Iraq, and not even from Syria. In Ras al Ayn, people heard Aadan from the mosques for the first time in six years. The Marxist Kurds denied people the basic religious freedoms.

Turkey , as an old empire could smell the future games of the new maps planned in the middle east. How can a group of people who are less than 10% of the Syrian population scattered from the east to west could control 30% of the land including the Syrian gas production regions and all routes leading to Turkey. Those who know the region would tell you that most of the region surrounding the Euphrates river were always traditionally Arab lands.

Imagine if the Kurds took 40% of the state declare a new state, then recognized by US, SAudi Arabia and others. That would be a clear and present danger for Turkey. Folks, the world is changing. France , the patron of Syria for many years will be out of the whole region except Lebanon, and when Syrian construction stars, it will be Turkish companies who will be entering the market thanks to the favour they did for the refugees.

Furthermore, 3.6 million Syrians will be settled in the north as soon as it is pacified. Even Russia knows that Assad will be out of the equation in the future, and the only legitimate government will be the one elected by the people.

Judging by the speed of the Turkish and their Syrian allies and the nature of terrain , this operation could be concluded within weeks. Trump could go home declare victory and tell his supporters that he brought the troops home , and might even win re-election.

if we Somalis had capacity, we could have done the same thing and confront the Kenyan threat head on before it grows. We could have attacked the Kenyan backed mercenaries and pushed them out of the country for national security. THat is what nations do.
