Dhaqaale Somaliland got its independence by force its recognition was mostly withheld from Arab states Egypt and Saudis. Eritrea got millions of dollars from Arabs to fight Ethiopia. Where as the SNM did it on their own. The Arabs were not on our side but on the side of  afweyne. But today the Arabs have realised Somaliland is a reality and get  be used against Ethiopia. Even afeweri is now in line with Ethiopia after 2018.

The plot was to bring down the Somali government and make sure it did not return as a threat to Ethiopia. It is well documented that the SNM was funded and encouraged by the Mengistu  government of Ethiopia 1981-1988. The plan worked well but the SNM have egg on their faces because the international recognition did not come. Admit they were played...now Somalilanders wallow in poverty and social stagnation.

Ethiopia is not under amhara but it was under tigre. And the tigre were playing a double game with both Somalia and Somaliland. Mengistu derg did not fund SNM it gave training places but all the weapons SNM had were bought by the SNM with their own money the derg did not give us anything for free.  But the region is changing yemen which was very anti somaliland is destroyed. Bashir of Sudan is gone and for the first time. Ethiopia  is under oromo.

Dhaqaale

Can I ask you a simple question why hasn't Ethiopia (the seat of the A.U) given Somaliland a seat at the U.N? 30 years is a long time with no end in sight. You were promised statehood if you rid Somalia of Barre but in 1990 you realised it was not coming but still declared independence but not all agreed. Abdirahman Ahmed Ali Tuur wanted a unity government with USC. By 1991 things changed again and hard-line secessionist took full control of Somaliland and the south descended into darkness.

One wonders if the SNM were ever hip to the game, history say no.

You put to much importance on Ethiopia. Ethiopia if it was under amhara it would have supported Somaliland. Ethiopia can't give Somaliland a UN  seat. Because Ethiopia doesn't run the UN the US does. Whats important is that Ethiopia Kenya and African countries support somaliland quest for statehood.  Since we had a fact finding mission in 2005 and clearly showed Somaliland case is not a secessionist entity. But we're 2 equal parts that formed the Somali Republic. The world knows the situation that Somalia is a failed state with several fiefdom and shabaab militants and that somaliland isn't part of it.

Xaaji, a simple question. After their fact findering mission in 2005, as you say, to determine if Somaliland is different to Somalia. Why hasn't the international community given you recognition? What is the hold up?

PS I know Ethiopia does not control the U.N I was alluding to the fact if a nation state gives an unrecognised country recognition they you would get a seat at the U.N.
