What region. You make it sound like there are important powers in the region.

Ethiopia is half of what it was a year ago. Djibouti is not interested in this kind of competition that considers war and war capacity. Somalia is not in competition. Kenya is also not in competition. Eritrea is losing its masters and financiers soon, with Egypt following UAE and SAUDI Eritrea has to look for other masters.

I am not trying to underestimate your achievements, but just reminding you that its not a competition even if you succeed.

Somaliland, sheekadii caruurta lagu seexin jiray habeenkii, waa dhamaatay. UAE iyagaaba khaati taagaan, oo markii horeba  wadan yar oo aad loo buun buuniyay, laqaribey.

The UAE signed a secret deal with Iran and looking a way out of rescue. But there will be no rescue and it is waiting for a hard crash landing. The fogy and the small desert country lived a big dream, engineered by NGO groups outside their border. Somaliland was a fake package made in a similar way and face reality check too.

@Duufaan

Hadalkii madaxweyne Muse Bixi ka yidhi Berbera horta dad badan oo cuqdad nafsi ah qabay oo neeftu ku xidhnayd ayu neeftii ka sii yara daayay.

Laakin halkii waxba iskama badalin. Neeftiina sidii aya iskugu haynaysaan.

To the contrary, UAE will be doubling down its relationship with Somaliland. Just watch the space. :D

What you mean is probably cargo freight airline to serve landlocked countries like South Sudan, Ethiopia and Rwanda. That business opportunity is there for Somaliland. In fact, it was there for Djibouti for 30 years. While Somalia was in flames for 30 years, Djibouti was served by Daalo from Somaliland and Jubba airways from Somalia. They couldn't create or manage a local airline. The ruling tribe and their boys were chewing Qat.

The truth is capitalism needs well educated workforce and high class management which is another level compared to Somaliland. AS you know in Somaliland,  we are tribes , and tribes can't indulge to manage sophisticated enterprises which needs high degree of merit and independence from the corrupt ruling class.. The  private sector guys like Dahabshiil could probably do it.

Anyway, the whole Somaliland can't accomodate more than one good airport. I laugh when I hear people talk about airports in Burco or Borama. You need to build more  traffic.

Forget about Berbera, just make the Hargeisa airport better and bigger.

Well, we will talk about that when they start raining down on Eritrea. UAE's base in Eritrea is currently actively engaged in the Yemen quagmire and is also much closer to the Houthi controlled Yemen areas.

Any business that establishes an operation in the Berbera Free Zone will have access to tax free imports. That means, a more competitive service when compared to others.

It may not be very obvious today, but in 5  - 10 year time, the detractors will understand it all.

It now looks like that, but it wasn't that Djibouti was asleep.

The Americans put a monkey wrench to the plan, by bringing Eritrea out of the cold and making regime change in Ethiopia all work financed by Arabs.

Djibouti was to have a regional airlines half owned by Ethiopian airlines. The limits of this airlines would be Kenya, Both Sudans, Saudi, Gulf and everything else in between. Ethiopian would fly outside of this area and inside Ethiopia only. 1.5 airport in Djibouti would serve Ethiopian airlines to eliminate its stops in Saudi and Israel to fill up for its long trips. (Since Addis is very high altitude planes cannot fill up, but in Djibouti they can).

Djibouti would have share of Ethiopian airlines as well.

If you remember Abiy had to go and assure Ghelleh that the plan will continue, but Ghelleh knew it was dead.

Now the Tigray want to start their own airlines, which most likely be mostly Djibouti, but Abiy and Afwerki will not let them. Unless Ghelleh can come up with different solution or the UAE/Saudi crisis changes Horn of Africa again.
