Wretched, jobless, invisible: are Britain’s Somalis the enemy within?

Recommended Posts

Yes,we should. Something in the right direction has to be done. Most importantly reaching out to the younger community by male role models, assistance to get a good education and securing jobs as well as healthy constructive dialogue by academicians, respected sheikhs/ulamaa and concerned parents. The whole community has to be involved. Most of parents and relatives are still in denial and end up heart broken when their youth end up calling them while in Somalia saying their final goodbyes.. and at that point the parents understands one way or the other they have failed their children. Alot of these youths are bottled up or only exposed to one side of the story, dont really know their true Identity i.e have inner conflict on being Somali or being a Muslim at the same time acknowledging their new identity be it British/Danish/American etc.

There is alot of work to be done. May Allah give people the courage to be bold, understanding and make the move to save our younger generation. Amin.

You know I could have said so much in retaliation, but in all honesty I'm just too tired. I'm tired of making excuses and standing up for people who won't stand up for themselves.

I know the media is trying to insight hatred and I know that some of the propaganda is based on reality. I think it about time we start collating our own stats on the number of Somalis achieving and trends on development. It’s easy to point out all the negative things.

*Yawn* they won't let me go home:(

We should be worried about our youth, what has happened is past but we do need to think about how we can better support our young boys from being led astray by gangs on the streets of UK cities or from these groups doing unbelievable things back home.

Cara, who in their right minds would stereotype a whole nation that way in the title? This is THE TIMES we're talking about, not the Daily Mail, or worse, the Sun.

"Wretched, jobless, invisible: are Britain's Somalis the enemy within?" How the french connection UK can you not get insulted by that? That is b1tch1ng.

They're all effed up and need to leave the Somali people alone. God! This is beating a dead horse. We're effing immigrants and most of us are doing the best we can. Yes, we have criminals, con artists, lazy people and in between. Whats ******* unique or newsworthy about that? By the way, we dont even amount to such percentage to bring down anything.

I do a 24 hours past coverage on the terms 'Somali' and 'Somalia' on googlenews search engine every now and then and this article appeared a few days ago. What I realised is that The Times is somewhat doing a series of articles on Somalis as of late. And that their coverage could have been inspired by the Sun's earlier coverage. But all in all, The Times' coverage on Somalis - despite the evocative headings - is surprisingly 'somewhat' less negative than previous ones.

Cara.

^Can you post the series please?

5, that's what I was saying. The title is straight out of the xenophobic fear-monger's handbook, but the contents are somewhat less sensational. Look at it this way: some mouth-breathing racist will see the title and get excited, but hopefully when s/he reads the article they'll learn something.

What I find amazing is the range of anti-immigrant strategies the local yokels use. When an immigrant bloc is generally jobless they are lazy and unproductive. When they are willing to do sh!tty menial labor they are here to steal your jobs!
