Ethiopia's Foreign Affairs: Completely annexes into Ethiopia all of Ex-Italian Somalia.

This Map is historically accurate. There was a time that Somalia didn't exist on the Maps of Africa, and it was ruled from Addis Abeba by Italy. This was in the 1930s.

This Map also shows the original countries that existed in Africa back in 1930s, including Somaliland.

Firstly, the Italian East was composed of six Governates, each with its own capital and all reporting to Rome. Not that made any difference to the colonized/conquered people. Secondly, Ethiopia was an occupied not colonized like Somalis. It was no different than the conquest of British Somaliland by the Italians (And yes British Somaliland was conquered by Italians). I guess it is slightly since the Italians attacked a British colony, not an independent state as you would have like to sell us.

The last Sidama/Galal Governer was fascist Carlo De Simone who overran parts of British Somaliland.

Only secessionist will look to colonial history as the source of their legitimacy.

You have a way of getting under the skin of SOL patriots.

Somalia, Ethiopia...never existed before 1910 when borders of all East Africa was delimited at least on paper.

And then 1936-41 it was Italian East Africa

Come forward to 2018 Italian East Africa is being restored, but very short lived, already breaking in months.

Observer,

Our friend could actually make a better case in today's context unless he just trolling than he resorting to European colonialism as justification for today's borders.

In any case, the time has come for Somalia's arch enemies to head home.

Che,

Nation states as we know them today are creations of Foreign powers. So, which ever way your slice it or dice it, you cannot escape the facts about how they came about and their historic background.

Having said that, the keyword that one needs to keep in mind is 'soveriegn rights' of foreign powers towards their foreign possessions.

With regards to Italy, it was a long held goal and plan to create one Pan-Italiana East Africa which included Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritrea, since the early days of Empror Menelik. That came true when the facist Benito invaded and defeated the Ethiopian Empror. For few years, Italy held the soveriegn rights of Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritrea.

Whereas with regards to the 1940 invasion of Italy in Somaliland, even after occupation, they never enjoyed sovereign rights over Somaliland. It was regarded by the world powers at the time as an occupation.

The Ethiopians are masters in 'slowly but surely' train of thought. What began in 1994-97 as fighting Al-Itihad-Al-Islamiya group, is now morphed itself as the welcomed peace enforcers of South Somalia. The Ethiopian army now has permanent military installations in every region of Southern regions of Somalia including Jubada Hoose.

The ground work is there, but the fools from South Somalia are preoccupied with Somaliland.

It all makes sense that Cheeseman sold out to Ethiopia 4 ports, and Ethiopia building a navy.

The French President's recent tour of Addis Abeba and Nairobi re-enforced this. In fact, he said that, Francce/EU will help Ethiopia and Kenya create their 'best scenario' for Somalia.

I won't be suprised that they will lose the Sea to Kenya, parts of South Somalia to Ethiopia (Bay & Bakool clan). And to add insults to bad situation, Somaliland gains its indepdence.

By the way @Old_Observer, Abiye Ahmed didn't attend Eritrea's Indepedence day which was on the 24th of May.

Has the relationship cooled this much? What is the impact on the much touted 2 party agreement (Cheeseman was a formalation never a partner). Did the wheels come off so early?

Ethiopia , a nation of " nations and nationalities " has no business of encouraging the dismemberment of Somalia. If there is any nation that has to disintegrate in the 21st century, it is the Yugoslavia of Africa --Ethiopia.

I don't understand why Somalis worry about Kenya  or Ethiopia ro recognize Somaliland. If there is anyone in Africa to disintegrate, it is Nigeria, Ethiopia ,and Kenya.

Have you seen former Nigerian president OLusegun Obasanjo coming to HArgeisa and some fools even thought he came for " Aqoonsi". Nigeria was the nation who put down the Biafra separatists in south west of their country. He and others were working hard to keep Nigeria together for decades.

British Somaliland came to a being after the versailles treaty of 1919 when  borders between colonies were settled. By 1940, the Italians overrun and took over everything. By 1941-1948/50, Somali territories from Zaylac to Gaarisa and Jigjiga was ruled by the British. For most Somalis it was colonials chasing one another. So, Somaliland was ruled as a legal protectorate from  1919-1940, merly 21 years. In 1950 after the SYL opted for Italian rule and refused to be under British administrative mandate, the British started to curve up  the land and had given a huge chunk of the protectorate to the king in 1954. There was even a real fear among the leaders that the rest of the protectorate might be given to the king. That is why the union was important.

Anyway, a couple of dozen elders in Burco in 1991, can not change the map of the republic that is recognized and approved by national referendum

50 oday oo Burco ku shiray burburkii wadanka ka dib, ma bedeli karaan kharrirrada caanka ee Somalia..

There is difference between annexation and disintegration. THe fact is Ethiopia can not survive the way it is today. Their leaders rightly believe that a larger union in the region could be the only way to keep Ethiopia together. THat is despite our good relationship with the Ethiopian leadership, a good Somali leader must always plot to dismember Ethiopia. My God , we have so many weapons to make Ethiopia like Yugoslavia. All you need is Few millions and some trained spooks.

Ayagaan kala diri lahaa.
