The whole of the 5th pantry was f'ed up after that. 100's of thousands of germans were getting screwed on the western front and the millions of red army conscripts on the eastern front meant the war was over before it really started. Military incursions into Russia during the winter results in logistical difficulties, significantly decreases reaction times, and is morale sapping. Napoleon was thwarted by this same Russian winter. The Nazis made the same mistake, this inexcusable blunder crippled thier military capacity and led to their eventual defeat by the Allied forces.
