GREAT movies

I wonder: Does one's choice of movie/s tell us something about his character and what he is like and so on????

Of all the choices listed, I think I'd say the Usual Suspects appeal to my taste...both in terms of well-writen script and picture...

Cry Freedom, and Out of Africa both movies capture the African landscape so beautifully and for that I can watch them tirelessly for many hrs...

Black people have a great heritage and a natural ability to tell stories, why then are black people content with such mindless drivel?

I also like
Scarface
and the shameless mockery of the American dream it portrays.

I hear ya Xu, can you believe Scarface got bad reviews when it was first released in 83. The movie has grown somewhat of a cult following right now, but I guess those suburban native caucasians just couldn't relate to this movie when it was first released. There are so many aspects to that movie I couldn't afford to elaborate too much on it for lack of time, but I'll say that one of my favourite quotes is found in that movie. I have a black/white poster of Al Pacino with that fat cigar in his mouth and close to him is that spheric satuette where it reads THE WORLD IS YOURS .

As for Malcolm X, what can I say brotha deserve an oscar hands down he put on a great performance, a much tougher role and better movie than Training Day. Of course the academy had to shun him (since Malcolm X and his history still made alot of people in the US uncomfortable even in the 90's) They tried to make it up later with a "good" movie in training day.

Best Movies this year?

1) Ray - great acting by Mr Foxx, disappointing ending

2) Collateral - Another Foxx performance made this a decent movie from the usual Tom Cruise stuff (who saw Vanilla Sky  )

3) Million Dollar Baby - After having it on DVD for a few weeks i finally decided to watch it last night after the Oscar, decent storyline etc but i think the ending gave it the Oscar, the Librals had a field day with this one.

Great Movie saxib, followed up by many a hiphop track, Nas's Whos World is This? comes to mind

I havent seen it for a while, but the best bit is when Montana is in the club high as a kite, as Tony puts his arm around Michelle Phifer, Frank says:

Frank - "Tony what are you doing, get off my wife"

Tony - "The only one who gives orders is the boss"

Frank - "You remember what i told you Tony"?

Tony - "What Frank"?

Frank - "A ....... (cant remeber the word)is pig that dont fly straight" Frank leaves the club.

Then the great scene in the club and Frank's Office,,,,,Classic!

All time movies (not in any particular order)

Scarface, Clockers, City of God, Le Haine, Usual Suspects, Do the right thing, Manace to Society, Dont be a manace to society......, Shawshank, Casino, Goodfellas, God Father 1 & 2, To kill a mocking bird, Zulu, Contakinte, Lawrance of Arabia, Al Risalla, Donnie Brasco, Escape to Victory (obvious choice), Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, The Raindeer Hunter, Raging Bull, Taxi, Set it off, and many many more, cant remember the rest!

Faheema.

Movies are getting worse to say the least. Most recently I saw The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, (don’t ask why, I was with a friend who was a fan of Bill Murray). redface.gif There was no obvious moral message, no dialogue/storyline, very predictable and NOT funny at all, it was pathetic, what a waste of screen space.

Films are becoming a Product rather than the great Art they once were, It’s a shame. :(
