A long time ago, most of the current Somali territories in the horn of Africa belonged to the larger Cushitic nationality of Oromo known by the Somalis as Galla and others. For hundreds of years, until the end of the 19th century, the nomadic

 

Somali tribes have invaded and forcefully occupied parts of the present state of Somalia which was populated by non-ethnic Somali ethnic groups.

 

During their expansion, the Somali pastoral warriors have evicted the majority of the Oromo and other non Somali tribes from their land and forced those who remained to be assimilated. In the course of these campaigns, Oromo tribes such as Boran, Rendiile and others have been dislodged from their territories of origin inside Somalia and these communities are found in Kenya & Ethiopia. In fact large number of them such as Wa Boni and Gaalbore have been partially integrated and have taken nominal Somali tribal names although still considered inferior to noble Somali tribes.

 

Most of them live among the Di.gil & Mir.ifle tribe of the South.But Oromos who declined to convert and refused to become clients to the Somalis tribesman were subjected to aggression and discrimination like Ribo (raybo), Wardey (Waradaya) in the South and Lo'jir in the North.

 

If you go back to the oral history of the Somali people, you will understand that Hargeeysa (North) and Garbohareey (South) are actually Oromo names and literally Galkacyo means, " Where the Oromo has been kicked out "

 

Overall, the Somali war of " Force occupation " has been stopped by the British colonial administration in the late of the 19th century after the British has realized that the wandering warlike tribes would cross over the Tana river in Kenya and into great lake region.

 

After the Somali civil war, the Somali tribes of Oromo origin who were unarmed were robbed, raped and killed in wanton.

 

In regards to the minority groups in the failed state of Somalia a lot of reports have been written over the plight and the suffering of ethnic clans but, unfortunately, the Somali tribes of Oromo origin such as Ribo , Wardeey and others have not been mentioned .

 

Therefore, as there is no hope that a democratic state will come out of Somalia in the foreseeable future, we demand from human rights organizations to correct their mistakes so that, at least, the rights of these communities are recognised by international organizations.

Somalis lived before Oromo's in the Horn region that is now known as Somalia.

 

Matter of fact, Oromo folks evicted large groups of Somalis from their lands in their expansion towards the north and northwestern corners of the Horn.

plz everything u see out is not true! evaluate and n then judge it. Somali history started way before 19th century.

 

Most somali folks understand that somali history started around 17th century during axmed gurey time when most tribes in somali converted to islam. Oromos never lived in somali but were a major tribe in ethiopia. Their down fall started when they divide into 2 sects, moslems and christians. They lost power and got defragmented.

 

 

On the other hand, tribes like Gallo who were Somalis living in Galkacyo never converted to Islam and got smoked... hence the saying among somalis...hey hes Gaal when refering to non moslems they encounter.

 

So plz dont believe everything u see...use your logic...without it, u might believe that Bounce is somali as some somali kids in the net believe.

What a rubbish article. Intuu u wadaa ka wadaa. Least he could have done was to source his fabricated historical events. Popular myths like the original meaning of Gaalkacyo ayuu lasoo shirtagaa and present it as unquestioned fact. Eesh caleeg.

There is a debate about the origin of the name "Hargeysa" but i don't want this guy to take the advantage and use it for his own silly purpose.

Somalis converted to Islam a long time before Imam Ahmed Gurey. In fact, the vast majority or probably all were Muslims by that time.

Ahmed Gurey, the Somali leader,lived in the 16th century. He was 18-19 years of age when his Muslim army defeated the Abyssinians.

Che saw the horn of Africa and Ethiopia in black and white back than.  The bad habasha good gallas. But knowing habashas and as i lived in addis Ababa for quiet some time  habashas are better manerd than gallas. Plus habashas don't want to annex parts of kilinka. Habashas are are historic adveseries. But even enemies can respect each other. And gallas are inhumane blood drinking pagans they are the only enemies we have in the horn today after poverty and poltical disunity amongst our selves

The question this guy should ask himself where did Somalis come from?

Somalis are like many ethnics in East Africa.Yes Oromo have numbers but lack courage. Due latest Dna, we share more but branched sometime ago in East Africa

This is quite common everywhere, but in the HOA it has attained the height of fake history.

Every some decades new claims and counter claims are generated especially when there is regime or change of fortunes.

It has taken a quarter century to discredit and expose what the Amxara created.

The Oromo are now on high speed to create their own stories.

The worst part is when the victims start believing it and convert themselves. When you have Somali tribes trying ot tripping each other finding an Oromo connection then its time to give up and move on if you do not have money or force.

Actually, I just posted the article and I haven't commented on it. That said I have been sympathetic to Oromo cause and I did think we were natural allies since we had a common enemy. We can still work together but nothing will matter if they continue killing us.
