Dardaaran ladies!

Recommended Posts

-Lily-

These kind of warnings annoy me, always have always will. Why should one behave like a unfeeling & appeasing stature? Habki hoyadado yeelo , lol, what if you don’t want to be like your mum?

Mind you, half of it went over my head and I couldn’t look past the rising irritation that was washing over me, waxaba ugu daran nagaha u mashxarada. Basically asking this Hanna person to be a Stepford wife.

For those who can't view the video, or those who want to read the lyrics while listening to the Gabay,

here is the lyrics I wrote while listening to it, enjoy it, Thanks Cabdiyo, but I cannot say the whole thing is Dardaaran, even half of it is not dardaaran, only 1/3 is dardaaran :D

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

Adoo hoygiina jooga

adoo hooyadaa agteeda

harkii gurigiina dhaafin

adoo weydaaran hilinka

habeen aan meel ku baadin

hagoogta adoon hilmaamin

hugaaga xishood ka yeeshay

hadii habsan lagugu dooney

hawraarsana lagugu bixiyey

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

hankaagu midkuu ku siiyey

midkii hiiygaagu raacey

hadii caawa hoy-galkiina

hilwada laga wada tumaayo

inaan hoolabeey ciyaaro

hirimaadeyda boodo

sidii hoobalka u heeso

ayunbaa igu hagaagsan

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

waa halis haween badan

waa hudhud hablaha qaar e

hadalkooda waad haadin

hubiyoo hana oo kala huf

wixii hadimada talnaayo

haydaar horseedaaya

hoygiina duminaaya

hinaasaha wixii huriya

hufiyoo been ka soo qaado

halaan jirin ka soo qaado

hoygaag ka soo qaado

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

ubadkii adoo habaya

horaadada jaqsiinaaya

kali hawsha kugu noqotey

ha hilmaamin saygaaga(This is the part Lily didn't like)

ha halleen daryeelkiisa :D

yuu habeen amuu u seexan

hawl karnimo muuji

habkii hooyadaa yeelo smile.gif

kii habaryartaa yeelo

hufnaantii bahdii yeelo

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

wilkam iyo goodbaay baadhi

waa hadima looyaane

hagardaamo weeyaane

ha haweesan noloshaada

heyga waayad kugu noqone

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

hadba qowska sidan maaha

harkii qada ha karin maaha

yaan heed la dubin maaha

haambeedha iyo haada

heyntood la garaneyn

lana hubin xalaashooda

ha u ag heebaan

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

huga aan kaa hareyn milicda

dugsi noqonin hamadayga

hilbahaaga qarineynin

hanti badan lagaa siiyey

shiid hagoogan baa dhaanta

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

suunka iyo hilqadihiisa

nimey gaaja hiifeysay

haarikoow wuxuu siisto

haruur iyo galleey siisto

hoydiyoo hana baa dhaanta

haba u cuna dhaanta

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

howraarta gabadeydu

waa hoga tusaaleyne

halna hee kuma dhaafo

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

sidii hogal hoorimaad ah

sidii heegada daruurta

kuwii hodma lagu tilmaamo

kuwii hoygoodu buuxo

kuwii la isku soo halleeyo

kuwii habaqdhuhu u hoydo

kuwii hantidooda quura

kuwii hoy ilaahay geesta

kuwii haakah loo yiraahdo

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

kuwii heerad ye aroorsa

haaroor iyo heybad yeesha

haweeya iyo hodana raacsha

kuwii is hantiyee is hiifin

hal haysba kuwii ahaada

haruub caashaqeed wadaaga :D (I love this line)

haleela irmaan ku maala

hordhaca iyo heesigiisu

kuwa hab wada ahaado

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

kuwii hidahooda heesta

kuwii xaramkii haleela

hirdowda sidiisa u laaca

hilaaca sidiisa u muuqda

hortiina iyo hareerihiina

halkaad joogtaan aduunka

dadkaba ugu heer sareeya

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

adiga iyo hanadkaagu hoysta

anigu waan idiin hanweynoo

halbowlaheygaa tihiine

kuwii isku soo hamuuqa

kuwii isku soo haliila

kuwii isku soo hirooba

kuwii heyb wada wadaaga

kuwii ho'da wada wadaaga

hadeer iyo hadhowtadooda

kuwii is hareera jooga

ilaahay hortiisa ahaada

Wuxuu yiri hana e hee dheh

ilaa Harar iyo Hargeysa

ilaa hebentoota(Toronto) kanada

ilaa iyo hoobanheegan(Copenhagen) :D

ilaa iyo hindiya iyo jabuuti

wixii ma huraan ku dhowlan

salaan bey hirarka gaaban(short waves on radio frequency)

salaan hawada soo wada marsheene

Certianly Nuune, the general attitude would be to bloody well f off.

Neptheys, it's strange to see women fighting against their very nature. Not to mention the biggest b*stards usually have such 'sweet' and 'selfless' wifes. Best policy is to always give as good as you get.

^^ lol@isku dhax karis, I believe anyone who understand deep that mini-gabay would know this was totaly a set-up piece by a very clever man kuna guuleestay inuu hareerihiisa dumar badan soo tubo loona alalaaso, what a shirqool :D

Cabdiyo, I think most of what he is sayin is very clear, few heavy words or lines but overall it seems very crystal clear I think, you got his ula jeedo I guess smile.gif

Ms DD, walaashiis it is hard to translate into English, I may not be the best one to do so in English.

well i actually like that gabay nuune

Its just a dardaaran for the new bride. And every new bride and groom get dardaaran so what? Yes she should get words of wisdom told to her like those ones

I love the last paragraphes- i am gonna use it for the next wedding. Khatar baan iska dhigaya oo gabayaa ah

This kind of warning has always been unfair to women and doesn't apply to my life style at all.

i wish Somali men would just adapt and move on from this archetype of womanhood they are attached to from another century and country. MOVE ON. I can assure although i share some personality traits with my mother(love and respect my mom)I AM nothing like her, neither are my sisters and none of my friends are like their mothers either.

No offense to the older generation of Somali women, i think we are a different breed of women. we are educated, we have careers, we are mothers, Muslim women and we expect help from our spouses. And yes, sometimes...i don't feel like cooking...u might want to cook or takeout is an option...and don't forget to order from that nice halal Cham restaurant around the corner... ;)

I think it's a rather lovely poem. It's the typical naseexa/dua I would expect every mother, father, or a loved one to give their newly wed daughter/sister/friend (and her groom).

I don't quite understand which part the ladies took offence to. Perhaps linguistic constraints are obscuring some of the wisdom the composer offers. I think we need to develop a little more open-mindedness and stop presuming that ever word a traditionalist (esp. a male) utters about a woman/wife implies male superiority, dictating a submissive role that denies a woman her Allah given rights as an individual.

I only wish I could be one tenth the human being/woman/mother/wife/worshipper/professional my mother was and still is; any person who tells me to aspire to be like her and my aunts is a wise one who only wishes for my success.

waa halis haween badan

waa hudhud hablaha qaar e

hadalkooda waad haadin

hubiyoo hana oo kala huf

wixii hadimada talnaayo

haydaar horseedaaya

hoygiina duminaaya

hinaasaha wixii huriya

hufiyoo been ka soo qaado

halaan jirin ka soo qaado

hoygaag ka soo qaado

I really like this part; if only some women could heed this invaluable advice, many homes would be spared. Relevant to men as well.

P.S. Thanks for posting it, Cabdiyo smile.gif

Thanks for the welcome, but the rest i object to, just cause i don't a preset model of behavior doesn't exclude me from Somali womanhood.

Besides i like some parts of the poem, i appreciate its creativity. But i am a little tired of being Dardaaran to...
